ZHP gearknob lives up to the hype

I must admit I was torn on whether to do this or not, the original looks good enough and had no issues with the feel of the gear change... cdv delete and an oil change does wonders these cars! But when marlon had one for sale at a great price I snapped his hand off!

Firstly, taking off the old gearknob.
A right PITA, read a good write on here about straddling the centre console and it worked a treat! Tricky in a coupe due to the roof but got it off within seconds after about half hour of trying from the sitting down!

Some stats
Original style
Height - approx 90mm
Weight - 65g

ZHP
Height - 76mm
Weight - 170g

The gear change is so much slicker now, holding lower down is the first advantage but the rounder shape feels much better too and encourages you to hold the side rather than top as I did with the original. The weight difference is far greater than I thought and clearly has a large impact so all in, a well worthwhile mod for the manual z4!

Where's the best place to get one of these?
Those advertised on ebay all seem to come from Lithuania - and in one case, from China via Lithuanian mail ??
Presumably they're not the real deal?

cheers

A whole thread on where to get one here: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=106797

Yes, head to the thread Marlon has posted a link to!

I got one from Cotswold BMW last year after having a gearbox oil change and I'm with the OP - it's a huge improvement!

Funny, but I've never bought into the whole heavy knob theory. I prefer a light touch and a light knob.

On one of my cars, while most were paying for extra heavy knobs, I mounted a NOS walnut knob I had as a spare for an Old Lambo I owned and I can shift with two fingers - light and positive. Much prefer it to the stock knob weight, much less an even heavier knob.

YMMV.
