Zed has attracted lots of attention this week - Good & Bad

Like all of us I love my zed, and several times in my 5 months of ownership I've had positive passing comments in a car park or whatever which is quite nice.

This week has been quite surreal though...

Last Wednesday I parked up in Homebase and the man waiting by the car nearest me for his wife to return (with a plant pot in hand!) complimented me on the zed and asked what sort of economy I get as he's been trying to persuade his wife she should get a zed, anyway I was in no rush so had a nice chat, his wife arrived back to the car and was very impressed and quickly showed them around the motor.

Later that day at Waitrose, same thing again, old couple loading their shopping near me when I parked up, guy loved it; came accross and told me of some of his sporty cars when he was my age and that I was right to be doing it while I can

So then Saturday we went to Alton Towers, same thing again, this time a young couple parked next to us, guy has been contemplating an MX-8 to replace his practical family car, so we had a good chat.

But then...

Sunday, we went to Merry Hill on the way back down South, and as we were driving into the complex, 4 young kids in a beaten up (v. old clio - I think) wind their window down alongside us in crawling traffic and yell out Wan%&r. I pretty much ignored it, although my GF without any hesitation (who isn't a fan of the attention the zed draws) muttered "just because they drive 'round in a pile of s&%t" which made me smile and put a positive spin on the situation.

Anyway, I know there have been many threads about people getting both positive and negative attention in the zed, but with a coupe it's rarely the latter, and I've never really experienced anything more than 'nice car mate'.

I'd always guessed convertibled would attract more attention (particularly negative) - but anyone else had some particularly good or bad experiences...???

Look on the bright side, Maybe they were just shouting wan%&r BECAUSE it's a coupe and they recognised it was another good zed ruined with a tin top :P

Just pulling your plonker mate..

You answered your own question, you were in Dudley / Brierley Hill. Just jealousy.
Bet if you'd ask them if they wanted to swap you know what the answer would be.

Roadsters only get compliments :)

It's fun zed ownership isn't it

no negatives as yet in the Zed but in my previous motor namecalling would have been preferred :)
here's the tale from previous post .
should make you forgot your minor woe

shortly before i sold my 6 series i was tootling into our local tesco around 4pm , windows down as i was waiting for a new coolant fan to be fitted later that week , ,turned past 3 teenagers when i suddenly felt a soft strike on my left cheek followed by a cloudburst of chocolate muffin explode around the inside of the car , , ,yep ! id been the victim of a drive by muffination
they legged it before i could even turn round at which point i just had a wry smile , , would have been a trick i would have played in my teens so i took it on the chin literally .
so watch out guys with the roof's down it was a pig to clean up . teen daughter thought it was mad funny

That is pretty funny tho Andy........

I myself have had no real remarks on the Z...

But in the early 90's i had an E30 325 sport convertible,it was gorgeous and i went cruising with roof down in Manchester...I was on Deansgate in busy traffic, crawling along and looking as cool as a fat, ginger twentysomething could possibly be..

2 girls dressed as Pepsi and Shirley where crossing the road and they stopped in the middle of the road and stared at the car,one put her hands on the bonnet and declared that it was "one sexy f****n car" !!! I gave the wink and a bit of mancunian charm, her reply was "pity about the ugly b*****d thats drivin it"...

My spirit crushed, and my face quickly reddening i parked up and had a beer in Castlefield...

I've had a snowball thrown at me with the roof down in my 6...but then again I probably deserved that, driving with the roof down in the snow, on a sunny morning!!!!

Brilliant - I feel for you, but can't help but lol :D

@ ab7 - I think the clue is in the age of your respective interactees - the older ones, great respect as they know a nice car and the work required to earn one ; the younger ones are just externalising their jealousy and aren't worth the air it would require to berate them back. Though Nosa has a point

I just the the obligatory "we're paying you too much" comments at work :-/

My missus hates it because I enforce a roof down policy at 9.5C and it ruins her make up and hair

In all honesty, I couldn't care less about anyone else's opinion about from you lot ofcourse.

I bought my car because I like it, it makes me smile, and I'd drive it with a cover on if possible to keep her all to myself :-)

Had my pic taken in the Z4 by a couple who parked near to me on a Co-op car park, doubt it was the Zed :) Was spat at by a van driver in the Z3 :x

Tim.

I only laugh, 99.9% of the time if given the chance they would want to be in my position behind the wheel of the Z4 anyway.

I've only heard compliments. I'm sure I've had many a "That frazy cucking fool!" hurled my way out of earshot as I've overtaken.

Only positive for me, especially in France bizarrely for a German car. Main attention is when they hear the dirrrrty exhaust note

Like some of the other stories

I think there are two things which pretty much explain the whole thing, Carol got both of them...

My GF doesn't like the attention in the zed - and that's in a coupe so convertible would be pushing it too far (not that it's her choice lol)... but on the flip side sat in traffic with the roof down, my concern wouldn't be what people shout... it'd be what they do after she shouts back at them :?
