Z4MR - quality of the soft top

Hi,

1st post here so be gentle! :D

I'm looking into getting a Z4MR very shortly, always fancied a soft top as since i've been driving (15 years) i've never owned one and had a plethora of hot hatches (just sold an Astra VXR Nurburgring) so fancy a change of the driven wheels!

As the car will be living outside (for now anyway, until i get new garage door bought!) is the soft top pretty much leak proof or are they quite poor?

The soft top is pretty much the best you'll find on any convertable. It has a suprisingly solid feeling to it, it helps that the front section is solid  Not heard of anyone with big leaking problems, it's not likely to tear on the outside (the inside lining does have a spot where it likes to rub but it's not something you'll notice much)

There are of course issues that can crop up, the roof motor can break if the drainage hole below it gets clogged and it fills with water. Sometimes the roof doesn't quite go down fully and latch into position, mostly on older Z4's in the colder weather, which means a slight adjustment to the mechanism or a quick push down with your hand....

Hello duckson and welcome :) I don't have a M Z4 but I can comment on the standard Z4 roof. Mine lives out doors and the quality of the roof and soundproofing are second to none! The roof keeps the heat in and water out perfectly for me (Touch wood!).

I was very impressed on my test with the roof up at high motor way speeds :) BMW seem to know what they are doing IMO and have plenty of experience with soft tops!

Welcome  and as above the roof is very good quality more like a hardtop compared to a lot of softop cars ive been in and mine also lives outside has done for the last year and the roof is as good as new even after all the snow last month.

Thanks all.

Does the headunit play MP3 CD's as standard? Does the optional 6CD multichanger play MP3's?

Welcome :)

I've got a Z4M Coupe and the standard head unit plays MP3's. Haven't got a CD changer, but don't think it does play MP3's. Don't really need the changer with the MP3 facility anyway.

I find my roof fine by the way

Any post 2006 one will play MP3s, i think it's a black stereo instead of a grey one? Changer is the same too, if the head unit plays them, so will the changer.
