Hope this hasn't already been posted.

The GT3 driver's clearly taking a more scenic route, but when he does put the power down, there doesn't seem to be a lot in it.

Love the GT3 noise :driving:

Good old bedford, wonder who that is in the MC ?

There was a 996 GT3 when I was there in white, and he was incredibly quick.

Liking that camera mount in the vid...

Wonder why he posted a clip of not being able to catch a Z4M in a GT3? A bit like going onto Facebook and admitting to erectile dysfunction :P

Quite hilarious. My near neighbour whose dad owned "Anglian Windows" until 1997 had a new GT3. He managed to wrap the car around a lampost at 40 mph in Norwich. The idiot is called Karl Williams. He proudly showed me the picture of his Banana shaped GT3 on his 'phone. He seemed extremely proud of his exploit. :o

Don't buy windows from these pratt's. They will rob you blind. Believe me. :headbang:

A friend of mine has one and there is a bit of difference in straight line speed its 40 bhp up and lighter, can keep up with it in most road situations but it gets its power down before we do.

In that vid the guy doesn't sound like he is revving it the max, my friends makes a stunning sound at high rpm.

Come to the Sunday PH meet starting in Dalkeith then SirSimon. There's 2 of us going, both of them have been tricked and tuned. It's a showcase of bits from Remus, Supersprint, RPI, GruppeM etc etc.

Oh and the GT3 is not being driven in anger at all, he's not great with gear changes and taking it easy. He appears to know his boundaries which is, I guess, better than being an idiot.

Outrun,

Do you own a Z4M? I don't think I can make Sunday...

There is nothing wrong with a few slower laps, mastering the perfect line or just checking what another car does around the track. You can't drive the full day @ a 100% :)

Nice video :driving:

Obviously it can catch up on the straights (less weight, more power), the Z4M driver has a bigger heart I think ;).
Last circuitweek in France there was also one 996 GT3, could catch up with it, but i think with a better driver it could be much faster than the Z4M. It also looks more difficult on the edge than the Z4M

*had an incredible week with no probs, only fun - Z4MC/R888/CL6*

Funny I was just thinking about this a few days ago.. "would a 996 GT3 be a natural good successor of the Z4MC..."
I have't driven a GT3, but one thing that i'm not sure about is if i made a few changes to the Z say £5k in addition to all mods to date - could i get to GT3 pace at a fraction of the price?? I don't yet know the answer to this, and probably won't FULLY until i do both...

Upgrades in mind were: exhaust, sticky rubber (r888), full suspension, race seats (weight advantage >30kg), remap, bremb brakes, and a remap. First three done so far.

With the GT3 at c£40k and MC at £24-7k, don't think the M will drop much further but the poker could see £25k benchmark in 2 years.....

Has anyone else considered this route...

I think it would be difficult to get the Z4M to be as quick as a 996 GT3. It would be similar to getting the Z4M to match the new M3's pace, a hard job IMO unless you spend a nice few grand.

GT3 could be a future classic, not a bad car to invest in as a toy as they seem to have rock solid residuals compared to a vanilla 996 (and even the turbo for that matter).

I have been offered a ride in a 996 GT3 comfort which I am looking forward to

Yup GT3 might be the route i take next. I've been watching the residuals and they seem to be settling around the £40k mark. It's a 2nd car for me so i won't put more than 6000 miles a year on and it should retain a bit part of that £40K.

Bear in mind the running costs of such a car, they are in a completely different league to the Z4m.

Some examples, new clutch costs £3.5k and they dont last that long.
Brake pads and disks, only last 3 track days, they are horrendously expensive and if you don't use Porsche parts the warranty is void. They crack under heat.

Quite quickly the car you were getting for cheap turns into a very expensive machine.
