Z4MC - Project YesNoYes

The only way I can see it working is if you graft the original MAF tube in front of the airbox, so air entering the airbox passes through the MAF housing first.

You'll need an alpha n tune to run that box. That Def ain't gonna work that way.

Prob wouldent hurt to put a filter on the front of that either. I ran one of those boxes for a good while. That however looks like a grey market box. There was also zero need to bolt that dipstick to the side of the box as it can't go anywhere anyways, also when you looking where to plumb your temp sensor (if you go alpha N) you'll want to mount it as far away from the hot engine as possible. (Hint: the far side where the air enters the box is a reasonable position. )

I also gotta ask what is going on with the carter rebreather tube on your CF box? Normally these sit up perpendicular upwards, not on an angle like that? Did you dislodge it and re-glue it in its current position?

Anyways, that's just esthetics, but you'll need to sort either a tune or properly run the MAF. Good luck, if you need any help , feel free to ping me. :)

thanks for the all inputs.

going to remove the MAF and get the remap done to make sure its right for the box . put the temp sensor in there maybe as discussed above

tbh I dont know anything about changes made to it and location of things, just bought it and handed it over for fit

there is going to be a filter on the end of the box

all done, running well and the carbon box makes a great bark and sound right through the rev range

MAF delete and remap done to cope with the removal of the MAF.

Filter has been put together for the end piece as well so very happy with the outcome.

Stromung back boxes not for me and tried them out - going to a new home on here once they are off this week.

filter on. car went back for a slight change to the map. the OEM air box feed sits well up to it and just enough room. I might get a black filter so less obvious and paint the filter cage in black.

new windscreen and external rubber as had perished and cracked

back to OEM back boxes and stromungs sold on here.

off to Jack at Royal steering wheels for new wheel. leather, M stitching, Red centre at 12, perforated on the side areas. current wheel is proper shagged.

pretty much done then. drive and enjoy the up front barking

fancy a euro trip in the summer to Ring then BMW museum. maybe stop off at porsche in stuttgart too and then some alpine passes.

went to see Jack at Royal steering wheels in Great Missenden and amazing job as ever

the steering wheel was original I think and very tired and worn

have gone for M stitching, red stripe at 12 oclock with smooth leather then perf on the sides. I love it. massive improvement in looks and feel to what was on before.

OEM e46 m3 strut brace added

silver door handle covers wrapped in gloss black to match the piano black interior (I always hated the silver on the door handles)

NLW73,
A question about your Maf setup, I was under the impression that the stock Maf sensor was programmed for the stock 4" opening, your location for the Maf looks much wider than 4".
How did you reconfigure the Maf sensor to operate in that larger space? Did you run in to any problems while tuning?
Thanks

MAF has gone and the remap was done to enable the full de maf.

the tuner said it would be better to get the MAF as it would be a restriction. so all the air is coming through now the bigger hole. I think it's about 15 cms/6 inches.

you can run with a MAF but listening to folks on here they said get rid and re map.

it did get a bit lumpy down low revs in 3rd gear but a tune to the map got rid of that.

hope that helps.

I have no idea. I just threw the problem at BMR to sort out.

there is a temp sensor in the air box as well as the map sensor I think. I don't think its Alpha N - maybe a ping back to the OEM ECU

I can ask and PM you
