Z4m rears - whats best?

My tyres are knackered! I've been given a quote for £174 for a "255/40/R18 sport contact M3". Price is fine, but wondering if there is something else to look at. I found a post that is a few years old saying the M3's are just re-marked S1's and they are very dated.

Best to try something else, or stick to the old tyres?

Things have moved on, Michelin PSS the best, Goodyear Eagle & Vreds Vorti/Sessanta other options

The Conti M3s were older tech when they were fitted to the M3 in 2000-2004, so where very old tyre tech by the time the Z4M came around.

I also don't think the twitchier/harsher dynamics of the Z4Ms ride showed them off to their best either.

I very quickly went to PS2s and then PSS when they came out - albeit now in 265/40r18 instead.

I get about 20,000 miles (comprising long, regular motorway commutes, weekend hoons, the odd track day & a few 'Ring trips) from a set of rears and about double that for the fronts. That's about twice what I got from the Conti M3s and get much better grip/feel into the bargain. Plus they're cheaper.

Win-win all around for me.

Getting my local to give me a price on the PSS.

Is there much point going wider? from 255 to 265?

I only went to 265 as the PSS weren't available in 265 in the EU at the time.

Never bothered going back, as the 265 makes the speedo more accurate.

Have just put Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics on the rear, having put the same on the front last year. Got change out of £300 from blackcircles.com for the pair.

I am very very happy with them. :) :)
