Z4M Gear Knob No Red Glow (but knob is OK!)

Hello,

I'm having a problem with my knob :lol:

It's no longer glowing red, it is in fact not glowing at all :x

So I took it off last night (mine came off with next to no effort - having read the post on how to remove it I went to give it quite some force and was surprsied that it almost fell off in my hand!)

I've tested it with a battery inside the house & the knob lights up fine (yay) Multimetre reveals no charge going to the wires when the ignition is on or the lights are on.

I've searched high & low and believe this might be fuse 24 but then the same diagram says fuse 24 is also for the airbag system?

Any clues? May disconnect battery and go through them all !!

If it is part of the instrument light group, it may also be fuses 12 or 23 - but I am not sure about this. FWIW, here is the layout that appears on the card in the fuse box (sorry about the poor quality of the scan):

Well I've checked the fuses, all look fine.

Hmmmm, is it easy to take the trim around the shifter / lever apart?

And can I solder the wires in series with the ash tray or something as a work around?
 
Does your cig lighter work?

not sure it's on the same circuit but worth a try, also have you traced the wire back anywhere?
 
Yeah I did test the cigarette socket, seems fine, and the nearest light is the LED that illuminates the ash tray area, that's fine too.

So I guess the next step is to get the trim apart and trace the wire, wonder if it gets snagged due to moving around with the shift etc, hopefully something simple like that.........

Any idea how to remove the surrounding trim? I've removed a lot of trim on my old Z3 and this Z4 so I have no fear :)
 
If your knobs not glowing red then you should be fine! Put it down to a near miss and something to be learned from! :thumbsup:
 
FIXED! just got into bed and typical... saw this post .... http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=813

Realising how easy it was to pull off the trim.... snuck out in dressing gown to the garage... pulled it off and traced the cable to.. OH... a clean severed bit of wire lol..... just elecy taped it for now and it's all glowing nice n red again :)
