Thanks to another AW Z4MC owner on another forum, some more details are available about the ESS options on our cars...

For more info on ESS visit http://www.ESSTUNING.com .

ESS FI Stage One kit will be released in March. Retail will be $8,995 and will be upgradeable to stage 2. The kit will use a ASA clutched blower that will shut off below 1500 RPM. This is a nice option for people who use the car for daily driving around town. The ASA blower is quiet. Sound from the blower is only really heard at high RPM's. Stage one kit will make 440HP on 91 octane and 460HP on 100 octane. Stage 2 is $10,995 and will require an intercooler. Stage 2 will make 500 HP on 91 octane and 540 HP on 100 octane. With both kits the car will drive like stock. With both kits the ECU can be programmed to run 2 sport modes one with lower and one with higher octane.

ESS ECU software for NA applications is available now. The software will raise the rev limit to 8200 RPM. Top speed limit is removed and the car will pick up 11HP on 91 octane and up to 20HP with 100 octane. The sport mode can be memory programmed so it will remain on everytime you start the car. Software is $699.95 and will require you to send your ECU to one of the 3 US dealers they have. To purchase the ECU call (858)314-2954 and they will take car of you.

My question is whether the Z4M can use 440 or 500 hp. Will the increased power just spin the tires and make smoke?

Another question is the weight. How much will the kit weigh and would that upset the balance of the car?

I know of M3's that handle that sort of power with the OEM transmission etc. I am sure that the Z4M's transmission will be up to the mark!!

Should this be in the "M Specific" forum? This supercharger appears to be for the M54 3.0 engine.

The ESS kit for the 3.0 has been around for a while. This was news about the new kits for the M hence why it's in here...

Enfield, those are my thoughts as well. The guy who posted this info on the other forum though is going for a stage 1, so i'll wait for his feedback and see how he gets on with it. But the car does feel well balanced (power to handling ratio) so I know what you mean. I expect 440bhp will probably work, but 540 sounds like a LOT for the MC....

I must confess to being a little confused as well.

This is all I could find in relation to the M.

Depends on what happens to the torque curve really, I reckon if they keep it pretty smooth 440 hp will be fine, however 540 hp is quite another matter :?
(A 200mph Z4 does sound pretty cool though)

i'd love to have 440bhp in my ///M :driving: but i just can't afford it!
now if every Z owner on this forum donates $10 i'll do it & promise to post 1 race video every week! :D

thumbs up for ESS & hope their kits work well so we get to see some footage

Not yet convinced -- I like free-revving NA cars. Although I've owned turbocharged cars but never a supercharged one, so I don't know if the M's chararacter would remain.

NA s/w seems like a bargain though. Most of my UK-based investigations resulted in a price double that just to remove the speed limiter, ~£350 for limiter removal and another 20 bhp is a bargain. Wonder if they could be persuaded to do it on an exchange basis?

I've owned supercharged and turbocharged cars previously, and I can tell you that the supercharged car felt almost indistinguishable from a NA motor... it just feels like the engine has been super-sized!

Whether that applies also to the ESS solution for our Ms I don't know, but I'd expect it to be very similar.

This is nice and all, but the BMW //M cars have all been purposefully designed to be NA.

If you really want that much power trade it for the new M3.

New M3 weighs as much as a house though

The new M3 is a completely different car to the Z4MC though!?

First off, I love power, and I have no issues with modded vehicles. My Corrado VR6 has a stripped interior with a rollcage and 100shot of NOS direct port. But I didn't go for any forced induction because its already extremely finicky and unreliable.

Back to the M

Agreed it is a different car. But if you were to spend ~10K extra on a Coupe, it would be the same cost as a new m3. Assuming base is ~65K (USD)

My gas mileage is already ....ehhh, about 15-25 mpg (But I heard the e92er M3 is worse)

What would the supercharger due to our mpg?

With that much power would we need a new clutch?

Will it work without a modded CDV?

Would we need a new final drive to take advantage of the power?

To get 4.6-5.0s 0-60 times we have to shift extremely fast and accurately, sure with more power maybe we could get to 4.1-4.5, can we shift that fast?

Uncorked our cars can approach 170-175 stock...aerodynamically I think we can hit 186-190 beyond that we would need more than 600hp.

When is it too much? But I'm still interested I just have to play the devils advocate....

Hmmm 440bph and upwards - it might be nearly OK in a coupe, but that kind of power would pull a roaster apart, it would be too much. Interesting though.
