Z4M Coupe Creaks Behind Seats?

Hi Guys,

Still havent managed to get any pics of my z4m coupe posted (queue flames).

I have however noticed a lot of creaking from what i assume is the shaped panels that sit in place behind the seats on the bulkhead. The passenger one is worst. Ive sprayed some furniture poolish around the seams which i think helped a little.

Its come back though. Should i try some wd40? Or should i attempt taking off each panel and lining with velvet tape - anyone else had an experience? I could take it to the dealer i suppose, but then you always risk it coming back with scratches/more squeeks!

Already tried that - its not the pressure of the seats on the panels its how the panels are clipped into place i think.

They creak when you press them too quite a lot.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

:)

The cure for my creaking drivers seat back was a new back to the seat under warranty. Had to persevere though as the first attempt by the dealer was lubrication which didn't improve matters at all.

I think the issue here is that its NOT the seats - its the panels int eh bulkhead behind the seats. In my case anyway... i wondered if anyone has had them off and put velvet tape around? Or anything else?

Mine was dismantled and put together with the felt tape. It greatly improved things but now I am able to hear all the little noises that were masked by the big noises! :x

I see after typing this you say it isnt the seat, i will just add my info for any peeps searching in the future

Grab the headrest and shake side to side (not forward / backward) and see if thats the noise, it was on mine, more of a clunk than a creek though
Techie said the bolts were loose on the seat pivots, the passenger side is there for comparison remember :D

Does anyone know how hard it is to get those two panels out of the bulkhead behind the seats? I notice theres a little round "cap" which presumably conceals a screm of some kind on each one. Do they just then clip out after removing this? Just wondering whether i can do the job myself as the tape is only £20 quid for a roll of it.

??

When retrofitting components that required the console dismantling I taped the edges of some panels that refused to stop squeaking. The biggest culprit turned out to be the main cover that runs from where the hood latches between the roll bars all the way down between the seats. The noise was where this was moving against the panels on each side that it's clipped to.

Dismantling is easy once you get the order right and if you search I'm sure someone has posted a 'how to' on here. If not the TIS manual has good detail

Whats the TIS manual? And where is that available. I noticed there are some bits from it on here, but nothing about the twin panels either side of the rear console...

Is it downloadable? Or do you have to buy it?

Cheers,

Aaah thats a good site!

Im thinking my creaks are coming from just underneath part #14 in this picture (coupe). If i press the main trim it creaks liek mad - though i cant just remove it as it seems to be one large peice from that diagram!

BOth sides of the car do it - when i reverse out of the garage it creaks/squeaks as the car changes angle.

I'll analyse it, though it looks like my best bet is to just get it into bmw for them to do it - its under warranty still.

Sure - if it's under warranty don't even think about touching it as it can take ages to take to bits and rebuild whereas at the dealers it's all free. Just the hassle of booking in, courtesy cars, etc.
