Z4M bumper upgrade

Hi guys.

My bumper is currently in getting sprayed hopefully to get put on this weekend along with facelifting my lights and installing Angel Eyes

My question is about the undertray - what have people done to bridge the gap left with the M bumper? I don't want it to rip off and I don't want to BE ripped off for the M undertray.

Any advice or pics are welcome
 
Didn't Dan's that did the scoops do some under tray protectors of some description , not sure if that would work
 
Hi Russ I didn't do anything to bridge the gap I left the standard tray on and just put a few extra self tapping
screws in the undertray to hold it more securely it's been like that now for 2+ years, I have been thinking about
getting a cheap undertray from a scrap yard and cutting it up to cover the gap

Dan made some fang protectors that screw on I still haven't fitted mine yet :oops:
 
You really need to bridge that gap. Easiiest way I found was to play around with cardboard templates until you are happy with what you have, then fabricate one out of plastic or ally sheet

He did fang protectors. A worthwhile addition to an "M" bumper

This. Ranski did not, and his tray came off at high speed on the motorway IIRC...
 
I acquired a scrap bumper from the rubbish bin behind the local Ford Body Shop.
I used that material for various repairs on the M Bumper, like filling in the reflector ports.
I filled the under tray gap with a piece from the donor bumper.
Very easy stuff to cut and finish. You can use a heat gun to persuade if that needs doing.

Cost nothing, and offers you peace of mind in return.

Mine has a flat piece of templated black plastic to bridge the gap. Screwed to the tray with the standard style clips and same at the leading edge. Would never leave that gap open...

Also templated and fastened stainless protectors on the underside of the fangs.

All worked well for a couple of years.
 
Gents, I can't thank you all enough for the replies. I'll soon have front and back pre facelift bumpers spare so could always use them as mentioned. Thought I'll probably buy some sheet plastic. I imagine 3mm or so would do a job.
