Z4M - Best brake upgrades 2023

Anyone know how much extra a brake disc would need to be offset vs. E46 M3?

As above the brakes on both m cars were the same however the steering knuckle is different meaning that some brake options for the e46 m3 don’t work on our m cars the same. I’m unsure of exact differences as I can’t find any dimension drawings of the parts

I like the idea of trying to fit the f8x CCB but needs to be shimmed 3mm for E46 . . So would need more for Z4 - Expensive to try and find out if it’s possible!

I’ve got some second hand parts to fit to keep me going until I see a decent deal on an upgrade.

I’ll put it this way, I believe the Z4M need about 5-6mm shim to run the e92 m3 front discs while the e46 m3 can bolt them straight on so based off that logic you would need around 8-10mm of shims to work which is probably too much

I need new front discs/pads and probably a caliper refurb/replacement. . . So I might as well go for an upgrade

I don't get this. There are many cars with substandard brakes that cry out for an upgrade and in those cases the need to refresh what is there is a good excuse for an upgrade, but the stock brakes on the Z4M are excellent and the only change that might be arguably worthwhile is a switch to a different pad compound to suit whatever use you are making of the car.

Given the various fiddles and machining operations needed to fit different calipers that may be of questionable virtue as far as actual performance improvement goes, I question whether the urge to modify just for the sake of it is sensible. Are you planning to track the car or are you just after bragging rights? Have you found the braking performance to fall short of what you wanted for street use?

If I need to spend some money on replacing/fixing anything always look at the upgrade options vs. OEM, don’t get why you wouldn’t - it’s a 18 year old car, technology has moved on etc, so always worth a look.

Not had a problem with the standard brakes, however I think a BBK looks better, I’ve supercharged the car so any additional braking ability can’t hurt & main reason is I enjoy modifying cars

IMG_3547.jpegI went the Freakyparts route for front 4 pot calipers using stock rotors. Now adding Porsche 911/Boxster/Cayman rear calipers. Style won't match rear ones, hopefully will still look okay.

Thought I would source rears from Rockauto as remans, but after receiving 4 driver's side calipers instead of passenger side will just keep one of the the drivers side and sourcing used off of eBay.

All this shipping time has really drawn out this whole upgrade!

Here's a pic of my setup .... Again amazing brakes truly amazing but the replacement parts just seems way way way over priced.

That's a beast! Looks good though! Any proportioning valve additions/changes to make that 6 piston work?

its all properly piston sized for the master cylinder etc.... the 4pot rear can feel abit aggressive with a less sticky tyre but outside of that its absolutely unreal... Had these fronts glowing red a few times!

Is that the stock master cylinder?
