Z4C (&Z4MC) questions

Hi all

have been loitering for a good while now as had the intention of getting a 03/04 roadster 3.0l at the start of summer. TBH this hit the back burner as in an ideal world I would get something more practical than a z4. I have been monitoring 2nd hand prices of Focus RSs but the residuals seem laughable for a ford focus-still around 22-23k for one thats 18 months old! I had thought that if I could pick one up by the end of the year for about 18k i might get one but that won't be happening.

We also have now got a 5dr 1 series in the household so I have something more practical for when needs be. I have always liked the coupes but only upon recent net surfing realised that they are now with my budget 16-18k. Also ran an ins quote which was bloody great in comparison to the clio v6 I've just sold.

So my questions are should I get a 3.0si coupe or an M? My head is telling me 3.0si but my heart is saying bollox to it get an M but I have been in a siutation before where the day to day running cost of a car has detracted from the experience of owning it. It will def be through a dealer as I really value warrantys and am extremely anal about my cars!
I do about 8-9 thou miles pa. I do want a car with sensible running costs. It would cost me about £400 more to insure the M. But the 3.0si seems to be superbly frugal on fuel for a sports car is the M a lot worse? Much difference in service costs/intervals?

I am really into my detailing and car care and TBH if the 3.0si looked the same as an M I would take it all day long which brings me on to my next Q's.
1) I don't personally like the look of the 3.0si front bumper-a bit soft imho. Is there any splitters or lips etc available to spice up the look a bit?
2) Are there any recommended sports exhausts for the 3.0si

many thanks

If it were me I would go for the M. Why? - just because its an M and I've always wanted a BMW M car of some sort. Perhaps that not a logical or rerasoned argument for getting an M but there it is. As for exhausts for the 3.0 a search on here will link yout to several threads that consider this issue.

Have a look in the /M specific forum - there's a good thread about comparing running costs and another about the performance differences. There's also about 1000 more if you search 8)

Or, go drive both and make your own mind up

I've had an /M for 4 years and it's one of the higher mileage ones on here, still love it to bits but it does cost a lot if you use it.

M for sure. Worst thing ever would be to buy the Si and then be blighted by "buyers remorse" and have that ruin your experience of owning the Si. Unless of course you are completely satisfied with your decision... I'm speaking from experience here

thanks so far will have a look in the m section-the buying cost isn't really an issue as fairly similarly priced but I just don't want to be spending huge amounts on upkeep/fuel etc
