Z4 Steering problems

I bought a Z4 18i 2014 plate a few weeks ago and within a few hours of driving it home on the motorway the steering stiffened up to induce oversteer. I thought I had a flat tire so I pulled into a service to inspect but the tired were fine and the steering went back to normal. Another hour into the journey the same thing happened again (going 50mph through very long road works was a very frightening experience). I've booked the car into a BMW dealer to have a diagnostics check but I know they'll just say nothing is wrong.
I thought I was a little crazy so I drove the car to Cornwall and the same thing happened on the motorway about two hours into the journey. suddenly the steering stiffens but is lose and unresponsive around the center point. Applying pressure left or right to make the car steering induces massive oversteer.
I'm a 52 year old experienced driver. I've owed cars like a Lotus, Porsche and a Ferrari as well as driving many performance cars and believe me, this one is seriously dangerous, pure and simple and I simply don't know what to do because I know BMW are just going embrace a denial to this problem.
Have any of you encountered a problem like this ?
