Z4 Servicing

Hi Everyone,

I got my Z4 35i back in July it's a 59plate with 33,000miles on it. Best car I've ever owned, love every second I'm in it or looking at it :)

Question is this: The oil service and brake fluid service indicators have come on for their regular maintenance. Would you guys recommend going to a main dealer to get these done? Or would I be ok with any trusted independant garage?

I'm aware that the car is fairly low mileage for it's age and also already has a full set of main dealer service stamps. I've been quote £190 by BMW Warrington for *just* the oil change, which seems pretty...high...so with the brake fluid change too I'll probably be getting close to £300.

If you were looking to buy a Z4, would it having some non dealer service stamps put you off?

Second question - do any folk in the Warrington area have any preferred service garages? I'm quite new to the area!

personally Id be putting it in a trusted indy...I've no love for main dealers and their extortionate prices, David Paul in Warrington seems to have a good reputation

Thanks Mate, I'll check out David Paul. I found another local Indy specialist called Graham Martin who are not far away. Will try them too.

I encounter a more personal service with an Indy and cheaper too but I've had some poor experiences with main dealer so avoid now

We've used a local BMW specialist for our Z4 servicing, slightly cheaper, still using genuine BMW parts, but much better service than the main dealer, who just didn't seem interested as we hadn't brought the AUC from them. They are ex. F1 mechanics so fastidious about getting things done right.

Also have had the oil changed every year to keep everything running nice and sweet.

Agree with the OP, still don't get tired of looking back at the Z4 each time she's parked up :D

Absolutely agree. a trusted indy every time for me. Trusted is the key word I feel. :driving:

My local garage know me, and know my car. They are car nuts too, building and racing Ginettas, so they knows their onions.
They are cheaper, but to be honest, that's not my key concern.

Hi Fredg I'm local to you too and have used both for various things in my 8 months of ownership. Your call, they will both do a good job at reasonable prices.
PM me if you want further details.
Andy.

Small update for anyone who's interested:

I got her serviced at David Paul in Warrington yesterday, oil service and brake fluid service came to £168, which I thought was very reasonable. (BMW were going to charge £190 just for the oil service, no idea what they would charge for brake fluid).

No problems with the level of service i got from them, they squeezed me in with only a day's notice too. Very happy, will certainly be using them from now on.

There was also a beautiful Audi R8 on the ramp when i went to collect the car just now...it got me dreaming...

Which would have been the correct route to go down. If the OP had spoken to the dealer they would have pretty much matched the price the non BMW garage would have charged. Now for the sake of £30ish difference, less than half a tank of fuel there will be no good will from BMW should anything go wrong with the car, chance of no warranty added by a new owner, a lower bid come resale time and limited punters. ooops!
