Z4 Sdrive 30i M Sport - A good deal on new?

Hi All,

I'm a sort of newbie, used to own a Z4M, then moved onto a couple of other (Infiniti and Audi) for a few years, but now looking to re-join the Z4 community.

I understand the Sdrive 30i is being replaced with the 28i 4 pot turbo in September, but from talking to my local dealers there are a few last minute build slots available for the 30i and the deals seem pretty enticing.

They have offered good trade in on my current car and £4k off the list price including options on 30i. In addition to this I would also recieve the media package for free (usb, dab, sat nav and bluetooth) which is worth another £3k. So basically a £41k car for about £34k.

- Does this sound like a good deal.
- Obviously the 30i IL6 sounds excellent and the 4 pot turbo will not match this, but am I going to get hammered by depreciation basically buying a new car that is discontinued in September!
- the deal is only available before 1 Sept so would have to be registered on an 11 plate, wih the new 61 plates out on Sept 1st

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks in advance all and look forward to getting back into a Z4

HOLTY :)

Hmmm, that is a tricky one especially for the 30i as the 28i is slightly quicker but it is a 4 pot.The killer for me is the registration plate, if you can get them to register it as a 61 then I would go for the 30i if not the car will be 6 months old a few days after you get it with depreciation to suit.

I have to say that one of the main reasons for me getting the Zed was the sublime 6 cylinder NA engine and it is exceptional, will I get another with a 4 pot... Probably not

That's the million dollar question for me... but the Merc SLK is just the same... hmmmm :?

Going from a 6 in-line to a 4 pot is a bit like chopping off 2 fingers... :?

+1

BMW :o it will only get worse, the 'M' will be a 4 cylinder before long

I went from a V8 6 series to a 2.7 TDV6 Range Rover..... :headbang: now that took slot of getting used to!!

You'd still get a good deal on a 28 too....so worry not

Not that I am looking but, if I had to choose a new convertible it would be difficult. I shall keep this one for a few years so the choice will between a series 3 Audi TT (2013) or perhaps the R4 (2014). The SLK does nothing for me, and tbh if I was going for a 4 pot turbo I would rather have the 2.0T TT with Quattro and S Tronic over anything else at the moment.

sars, the R4 will be based on the next Boxster and Cayman... but they are likely to appear first are they not? Would you not consider those? Have to admit, the R4 (mini R8) could be a very tempting proposition!

The reason that I purchased the zed over a Boxter was that it just seemed wrong to do 25,000 miles a year in one, not to mention that the servicing cost would be horrendous. The R4 seems perfect, mid engined, Audi build quality and reasonable servicing intervals

The picture looks more like the a new TT coupe,

If you're going to buy new, use a reverse auction website called autoebid.com. You put in exactly what you require then your order is circulated to all the stealers who bid against each other for your business, rather than you as the lamb to the slaughter in the showroom. These are main & franchised dealers, not some back street cowboy or agency broker.

I have used them 3 times and saved between 8 & 15% off the list price of a new car if you don't have a car to sell - ie you can buy a year old car off the forecourt or get a brand new one this way with any options you require... check it out

Looks like the deal is done! Z4 30i M Sport for just over £8k off list price for 1 September 2011 delivery! Whoop whoop!

Hi Holty

Was the £4k off part of the finance deal(BMW Select) and in conjunction with the media upgrade?

Hi Canima, Yes I received both the 7.1% finance deal and the free media package upgrade, plus about another £4k off the list price.

Just been told by the dealers my car has gone into build and should be with me on my return from holiday in September!

I see from the BMW website, you can only now order the 30i in the Highline spec, on which I couldn't get hardly any discount at all.

Hope this helps :D

Hi Holty

Thanks for the update where is your dealer situated? Just about to swop my 2 year old SLK and the Z4 looks a far better bet than the new SLK, on spec, price and looks.
