Z4 roof won't open

Hi guys,

I'm looking at purchasing a Z4 but its roof won't open. The motor makes a sound briefly, but then it does nothing - see video below.

Can you please help me with the following:

-What is the problem? Motor/Hydraulics or both?
-How much would replacement parts cost? (I plan to ship them into Australia from the US as it's cheaper)
-Is it easy to do a DIY repair? Do you have instructions as to how I could repair it myself?

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Sounds like the common problem of motor failure due to water ingress (blocked drains either side of the fabric roof allow water to permeate into the hydraulic motor etc. :(
Yes it can be fixed :)
Replacement motor in UK is about £450 (I think and stand to be corrected) :oops:
It's not an easy DIY repair and will need two of you over about half a day (or perhaps more depending of your technical aptitude) :P

'Shipkiller' did an excellent write up on here with regard to a motor replacement but it appears the pictures are now gone - will try some more searches and see what I can find.

Couple of other things to check - the rear parcel shelf tabs are down (in the boot either side) - the red pull for emergency use is fully located and not pulled out.

Two options - if it is the motor get the seller to fix before purchase - walk away...... :thumbsup:
