Z4 ROOF PROBLEM - - BMW WON'T HELP!

If the dealer opens your 'file' and sees that you've bought half a dozen cars from them, they will normally do the sensible thing and make a good will gesture. I good customer is easily lost.

As said earlier, much is donw to approach, history with the dealer etc. but basically a 7 year old car is just that. If you bought it and never used it, after 3 years it's out of warranty - end of story i'm afraid unles you have good negiotiation skills.

Things must be more expensive these days! My 56plate Z4 recently had the same roof motor failure due to blocked micro-drain hole, and I was quoted £2000 by the BMW dealer to sort. Bearing in mind the car's worth £9K that seemed steep.

Decided to take a hit and get an economical (aka slow and sensible) car instead, so traded in, honesty prevailed (it was a blisteringly hot day so strange I didn't had the roof down...) so the 'economical' car dealer have passed it on to some unfortunate soul at a car auction - BEWARE.

Anyway after the BMW dealer quoted £2k (and on the day I was due to take receipt of my new car) the BMW dealer rang to say that BMW HQ would, as a good will gesture, part pay the costs and it would only cost £1k!

So if you guys can get it done from independent garages for <£850 well done.

I can't stand the idea of 'silly money' costs of keeping a 'prestige brand' on the road. I bought the car in part 'cos they are 'reliable and well designed/engineered'. CLEARLY NOT.

Bye bye BMW.

there are a lot of places now comming in at around 500 including a new motor to sort this out.... not pleasant but better than the silly money bmw want

£500 at an independent all in for a failed roof motor is reasonable for sure, the stealers charging £2000 is a joke. Recently had mine replaced and I still get nervous when opening and closing the blumming roof

I'm off to Autotech at Telford on Thursday.
It's gonna be around the £525 inc mark.
300 mile round trip but hope it's worth it.
Will post how I get on in the Dealer Feedback forum.
