Z4 project

I've owned my Z4 for 3/4 months one and thought it time I start documenting any progress made with the car in one place

The car is a 2004 2.5 in silver with black leather, the car has had 1 previous lady owner from new with a full history and a genuine 36k miles. I was picky about a few bits I was looking for one being heated seats which in my opinion are a must in a convertible and the elipsoid wheels having always liked them.

I was also fortunate enough for the car to have had a new hood motor a few months prior to me buying it as I am now aware this is the Achilles heal of the Z4

Anyway some pictures :

Overall I'm really pleased with the car, there's a few cosmetic issues to do all of which will be done when the weather improves. The wheels all need refurbishing, and the front bumper has 1/2 parking scuffs.

Plans for the car are as follows;

Refurbish the wheels in either standard colour or more light gunmetal shade

Ditch the run flats - i know this is a popular thing to do, they really are too harsh especially for the roads around where I live so they will be replaced at the earliest opportunity.

Eibach pro kit lowering springs and 10/15mm spacers - again another popular mod but I like my cars to look a little more squat than standard and the fact that they actually improve the cars ride further makes it a no brainer.

Potentially upgrade stereo to Alpine Ida with speakers to match

Front and rear strut braces

Brake upgrade to 3.0 spec

To unlock a little more induction noise whether it's by fitting the sound generator from a 3.0 or aftermarket filter with heat shield etc

As always all comments/opinions welcome

Hi Tango, welcome to the forum.Your Z looks fantastic, obviously, cos its the same colour as mine

You might like to buy one of those dinky little aerials too. They are as cheap as chips and literally a 30 second job (as long as the existing one isn't screwed in too tightly).

Hi and welcome. Nice choice and very good history, very fortunate

Thanks for the kind comments, I'm pleased with the colour choice I don't think you can go too far wrong with silver and black

Hellooooooo Tango - great zed, just need some dry weather to play in now :D

Tell me about it! I luckily have had it long enough to squeeze in a few months before its too cold even for me!

The car has gone into Protech Cars in Aylesbury (trusted BMW specialist who I cannot recommend enough) to have a few little bits done, namely to fix a problem with the drivers door handles...

It seems that the door card has been off once before and someone has routed the exterior cable incorrectly with the incorrect amount of tension. This has recently given up so a new cable on order should be done today

Also we noticed that the car was due a brake fluid service which is also being done today along with the CDV removal.

After having the car for a few months i certainly noticed it seemed I had less control over gearchange smoothness from 1st to 2nd. I have learned to drive around this for the most time having lived with some harsh paddle clutches in my time but have never been happy with this so is a pretty obvious/common thing to do in my opinion.

Fingers crossed I should get the car back later and will report with the results :)

Just got the car back with the previous issues fixed, along with the CDV removal..

Car now feels much smoother changing gear especially 1st to second so smiles all round!

And the car was washed insise and out which is more than I wanted to do with the weather as it is at the moment!

Hi and welcome, my son has a silver one also with the same wheels he is getting his wheels redone very soon, they do look nice in silver once cleaned and polished
