Hi guys. I have the following car. Model Z4 Z4 SDRIVE23I ROADSTER
Colour Blue
Year of manufacture 2009
Top speed 151 mph
0 - 60 mph 6.6 seconds
Gearbox 6 speed Manual

I believe it’s the n52 engine. Now I replaced the faulty fan but it seems the thermostat is sticking. This morning it flowed but later on after I changed the oil, the expansion tank isn’t going down. I have a thermostat but can’t get the pump for a few days. My worry being changing the thermostat but the pump being faulty. Can you change the thermostat from the top or do you have to do it from the bottom? Because I don’t know the correct e number and codes etc of the models I’m not sure if I’m seeing the correct z4 I’m fiddling with. Amy help appreciated

You've bought an E89 23i with the 2.5 litre N52 engine which has an electric water pump that will always die at some point, and sadly it sounds like yours might have done.

You really need to get the fault codes read in the OBD to be certain but if it has don't buy a new water pump from BMW, get the same Pierburg pump elsewhere and save £200/300.

Thermostat is bolted to the pump so if you only swap that you’ll be removing it again when the pump arrives.
Read the codes first.
You can try initialising the pump bleed process to see if the pump is actually working or not
