Z4 m coupe letting in water

Hi folks,
Heard a lot about z4s letting in water and areas like boot or drivers footwell soaked in water. Have mine a few weeks and cannot see any leaks - hopefully I will not see any either.
What is the main problem - does the z4 m coupe let in water??

Another question - water seems to lie at base of boot lid when it rains - lies where the glass meets the stroll lid - there is a seal there but appears to be bad design

Any input or knowledge on this ? Eventually it will rot the seal and leak or just rot the boot lid 😬😬

I think at the rear it tends to get in if the rear lights are sealed properly. Not sure about footwells, but possibly blocked drains in the scuttle area at the back of the engine bay.

Don't mention the water on the tailgate - it's what Roadster owners call the "Bird Bath", and all E86s suffer from that. As you say it is a poor design feature, but other than being unsightly it doesn't seem to cause any issues.

Its a well known fact the the hatchbacks have a built in swimming pool on the boot lid, along with corrosion on the hatch to.

But no drowned roof motor issues! :fuelfire:

Yes, not one of BMW's better ideas. My bootlid was replaced under warranty by the previous owner due to corrosion. Also, when you wash the car, lift the bootlid fully up and a load of water comes out. It's obviously sitting in there somewhere.

Preventing a rusty bootlid happening again is one of the (many) reasons I garage mine and tend to only drive it in the dry.

If you owned a roadster, you'd have water in your roof motor, so they're no better (and nowhere near as good looking  )

Too true, unless you want to take it in E46 flavour - which I wouldn't!

And then the car peels away from the chassis (rear subframe issues are insane on them  )

I had forgotten about that, but for me an E46 would feel much like sitting in any other E46 - at least until you fired it up!

Mind you road tax would be over £200 a year cheaper.
