Z4 LPG Conversion

Hi,

Hasanyone had any experience of converting their motor to LPG? More specifically their Z4? Fuel prices in the UK have reached £5.40+ a gallon - on current exchange rates thats almost $11 dollars a gallon.

I have done some research and the conversion will cost between £1500 and £1600 with a two year warranty. The dealers also said there is no difference in performance and consumption? Just have to put up with a hefty tank in the boot.

A garage near to where i live that sells LPG for £0.25p a litre!!! I beleive the average price around the country is 55p - incomparison to £1.18p+, my annual mileage of 28,000 it wouldn't take long for the conversion to be paid for.

Please let me know your thoughts and any experiences.

In Turkey LPG Conversions are pretty common especially for big engines (Anything above 1.6lt is Big for Turkey :) ) Eventhough I haven't seen any Z4's with the conversion there are lots of 3.30's 7, 5 and x5 series with the conversion. Some of the people that I know are very happy with results. Most of the closed parking spaces do not accept LPG equipped cars I am not sure if this is the case in the UK.
BTW let me remind you that the conversion might affect your resale value of the Z. Many people see the roadstars as hobby cars and most of them might not want to have an LPG equipped car with no luggage space.

thanks memo,

good point about the resale, but to be fair ive only have my zed a short time and plan to have it for another couple of years, so the millage will be high before we part ways. anyone had experience of reselling LPG motors?

As well as the space for the tank, the weight of the tank may adversely affect the balance of the car. Personally I'd only go for LPG on a large car.

X2 , we have LPG on the Touareg and it rocks! I don´t see any point in putting it on a Z4.... :tumbleweed:

LPG's been covered a few times on the board. See here for a thread with photos:
