Z4 Hardtop

Hey guys,
I've been thinking about getting a hardtop for the winter this year, called a couple of dealers and apparently BMW don't make the part anymore, so I wondered if anyone knew of anywhere that I could pick one of these up from?

If it helps my zed is a 2.5 06 plate with color code 475 Sapphire Black.

Thanks in advance!

Luke

Hi Luke,

BMW do still make and sell them - However, I suspect they don't sell them as an accessory anymore!

You can find all the part numbers here: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E85/Roadster/Europe/Z4_3.0i-M54/browse/sliding_roof_folding_top/hardtop/

and you can check BMW prices here: http://www.cooper-bmw-parts.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&sku=54210415369&Search=Go&page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&option=com_virtuemart

expect about £2k total I'd say

just seen you've got a black saff..

your hardtop roof part number is: 54 21 7 120 217

you'd still need to add on all the extra parts tho :)

Thanks very much for that guys! What are the extra parts that I would need? I've heard you need a mounting kit?

clicky that first link - should show you everything.
If you'res is not the 3.0, I don't believe you were hardtop-prepped as standard (tho others can confirm!), so you'll need the retrofit kit too.. also on that first link :)

All uk cars are prepped for hardtops, all you need is to remove 2 plugs and in it pops. do the locks job done. Your best bet is a used one expect to pay anything from 650 to 900 depending on colour time of year etc.

I used to think that until the buyer for my hardtop traveled 500 odd miles only to find out his car wasn't prepped...

Luke - Where are you based? My hardtop is for sale but I can almost guarantee you that I am miles and miles away from where you live!

Odd where that car came from as all UK cars are indeed prepped. Must have been some sort of factory error.

Is there a ridiculously obvious way to tell if your car is prepped or not?

It will have these

Yes.
Open the roof and just behind the doors at the top there is a 3" by 1" ribbed grommet. Pull it off and you'll see the tube into which the roof mounts and locks.

Much better with a picture  That's the view after the cover grommet is removed, which covers the tube and ribbed area shown

It was odd. The car was a UK Alpina RS and the spec sheet even said it was prepped. Somebody must have had an off day at the factory!

That may explain it as Alpina would have taken the cars from the factory and stripped them down to put their stuff in.

I thought you meant a standard UK spec car without the preparation
