Z4 GT3 Cars

Just watching the Blancpain Endurance series race at silverstone on Motors TV and what strikes me is how well the Z4 GT3 is doing in this series as well as other GT series. I mean the car is against much more exotic breads ala Mclaren MP4-12, Audi R8, Ferrari's etc and is currently running first albeit half distance - whats interesting is the commentator does actually say " the Z4 seems to be the car of choice in GT series now days"

I wonder if BMW will release a road going version of this. If we go by the last series E85/6 they were launched a year after the e46 was discontinued and a year before the e92 - using this timeline, what chances are there that they''ll do the same in 2013/14? Thoughts (?)

I don't think there are many shared parts between the Z4 GT3 cars and the road cars!

Do you mean a Z4M or a GT3 - you can buy a GT3 now for 400k Euros?

I know the Z4 GT3 is silly money and mainly for competition - i guess i was referring to a Z4M with a few GT3 bits thrown in for good measure i.e engine (V8 i presume), fixed roof  etc

Are there no Homologation rules in GT3? As the GT3 Z4 is NOTHING like the road car, most of all being it having a fixed hard roof - it may be the case that they have to release a similar road car to adhere to any regulations. I'm not up to date with any regs for this series so I'm not sure.
I only say this as the rest of the field are full blown supercars, with the racers baring much more of a resemblance to their road legal counterparts also the performance is much more on a par between the two.

You may find that even though I've heard rumours of no ///M version of the E89, there may well be a big bore V8 version in the pipeline - especially if the BMW continues to be successful in the series...

I reckon they might have squeezed the V8 in the Zagato... BMW still haven't said what engine is in it. At least not that I've seen. And it is road legal, which is uncommon for a concept. Would that deal with the homologation rules if they apply ?

No it wouldn't, because as like the road E89 Z4, the Zagato is so far removed from the GT3 car - The road car basically would have to use the same shell, with a very similar engine - as long as the engine cases and cylinder heads were the same it would most likely pass regs, like you said though, if they apply.

Alpina bought out a very nice B3 GT3............3.0-liter twin-turbo straight six with 408 hp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 398 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm

So we need the z4 GT3 now :)

According to Autocar Bing it is a re-worked 400hp version of the 35iS

Just read that if you have the money, you can buy one - probably wouldn't take a fat lot to make it a basic road legal car either.

£279,000 plus VAT - from BMW Motorsport - there is a catch though, you have to be a private team intending to race it.

:( Plus VAT

I did think there was a need for homologation on race cars competing in the GT series - maybe as long as you have commitment to do so then they'll let you into a series. Only time will tell, but hopefully not too long now...

That was ruinning in the Cannes Film Festival on the road. A coleague saw it but he could not tell a ' pot diesel from a supercharged V8 (like most french blokes sadly).

They're bound to release a few.

i think (iirc) that the times this sunday ran an article on the zagato, suggesting it was a V8. handmade bodywork as well...unbelievable.

Oooooo, nice. That would work in an ///M e89 for sure

Don't know about road legal versions, but it's a joy to see it on track head to head with some fancy competition and doing so well.

For my money I'd be happy with a fast road going version, with some sort of replica wide body kit, without need for £300k spend. That would look one mean road car.

It's definitely a straight six with hints of turbo whistle. Guessing it's the 35i engine as mentioned before.
