Z4 Ground Clearance

Our driveway is a bit strange in that it slopes quite sharply down towards the garage. However, to get onto the downward slope, one has to drive up the pavement which is on a reasonable incline. This means that there is a crest where the pavement meets the driveway.

My question is, how good is the ground clearance on the Zed? My RX-8 would scrape the crest if I tried to put it on the drive so I never bothered as the grinding sound used to make my bottom clench. I don't want to try in my new Zed and be left 'seesawing' on the top of this crest :-(
 
someone may give you an answer, however with all the variables the only way you are going to find out is to suck it and see :cry:
 
:-( What is there to damage underneath the car if it does hit the ground? I'll need to employ someone to lay on the floor as I inch it over the crest and get them to shot 'STOP' if it's getting close.

just get somebody to do this once and see just how much clearance you have and if you have plenty then just take it easy each time :thumbsup:

there's quite a few variables (wheel size/lowered/tyre size) and even wheel base will all be diff to the RX-8 so the best way to find out is baptism of fire and go for it slowly :fuelfire: :poke:
 
It'll ground.
It'll scrape and make horrible noises as it takes a few microns/inches of the plastic undertray, and possibly the exhaust center boxes.
Trust me. It'll ground.
Mine is at stock "3.0" height, and in grounds if I run over anything taller than a stick.


In all seriousness, it does depend on what springs you've got (so, the 3.0 and //M will be lower than the 2.0, 2.2 and 2.5).
The wheelbase is also quite long, so you will definately be lower when cresting.

Mine scrapes over every "center lane" speed bump, and going up the small incline into my garage (probably raises about 4 inches over 3 foot).
It unleashes a primal sick feeling each and every time.

I've never got stuck see-sawing tho.. so if you do try it, and do end up in that state, pictures would be appreciated :P

Hello from the U.S. This is a common problem especially if you plan on lowering your car at all. I live in california where our freeways are great for what we call "slammed" cars which I have owned and driven in the past. If your driveway is really that difficult consider getting two slabs of wood that you can drive on to get into your driveway without any scraping at all if you get a bit of wood that is the right shape you can simply leave it there and not have to move it every day.
