z4 gear change

Hi, i'm a little worried about how stiff and how much force you have to use to change through the gears in my Z4. I've come from an s2000 which has "finger power like" gear change so i know it is going to be a different experience but is the z4 gearbox generally stiff or should i need to get mine looked at,

thanks in advance

This has been discussed many times - try searching for it.

In summary most people find it stiff in up to 3rd gear. I got used to it over time.

A short shifter helps apparently.

Out of interest, how does the Z4 compare with the S2000?

Hi 007ml, you just have to be a bit heavy handed with the z's gear stick. Focus your attention and get your arm pumped before a gear change and you will find it quite rewarding. (that sounded a bit, no very perverted but its the only way i could describe it :D )

I had an S2000 before and can concur the z4 is very mechanical in comparrison.

Thanks for the reply. The z4 feels alot more solid on the road (feels heavier & better built) although, i would never knock the s2000, i think the s2000 is a superb car and a fine piece of motoring engineering. I think the s2000 handles better through corners but then again i think i need a little more time in the z4 to truly compare them. Sorry about the post (i did try searching) and thanks again for your help

My only issues is occasionally it's very difficult to get into reverse or first when the engine is cold

Have always found the gears to be a bit notchy on the Z4 to be honest. Seems slicker when driving hard though so I just try and always do that. :D
