z4 front bumper clip - "support, side panel front right"

Hi All,

I'm after those annoying clips that break when removing the front bumper, I need one for each side ideally. Is anyone selling them on here or know anywhere I can purchase them?

BMW charge a horrific, unjustified cost for one which I would rather avoid paying.

If you think £23 = VAT is horrific for quite a complicated moulding I think your in for a nasty surprise running a Z

Bite the bullet, £27 a side I paid from BMW when I had my front bumper resprayed
It's the cost of keeping your car looking good

I was fully aware of costs of running a Z4 before I made the purchase, regardless of whether the design is intricate or not it will be mass produced through injection moulding - Do you not feel like your getting mugged off paying £27 for a tiny plastic part? It's genuinely unjustifiable!

I accept BMW's are expensive, they are well built cars and I'm not complaining nor refusing to pay what it takes to get the part, why not try and source it cheaper? If I thought "yeah £27 seems reasonable for this tiny plastic clip" I wouldn't be here.

Unfortunately no one will have a spare. Common part to break either when hitting a high kerb or removing the bumper.

Bought 3 myself in my Z4 ownership. £75 on small bits of plastic :(

Yep, not something people will have. I had to replace two on my last car, unfortunately it's a part that needs to be bought from BMW I think. Unless you can get to a car at a breakers that has not had front end damage and get it off in one piece. Which you can only do if you remove the wing. Even the BMW TIS tells you to cut it out if replacing them :(

There is a way of removing the bumper without breaking them in the first place though, and if you buy the new version they are more robust than the originals.

They are buggers to get out even with the wing removed, but it is doable. I used a DIN radio removal tool as the bend in it was ideal to act as a pivot point, where as a screwdriver was a no no.

I managed to get one on the forum this week, pure luck. But they are so flimsy, but an integral part of holding the bumper in tight, unfortunately.

I live in Spain and when I had my bumper done I payed round 70€ for two... So I'm sorry but you will have to pay it :( and yes it is expensive for two small plastics [emoji1]

As these parts sag eventually and leave the bumper crease line wider and part of the bracket exposed, then I would not waste time even trying to get an old one.
Bite the bullet and buy from BMW, albeit expensive.

I do agree on the price and am sure it's one of those parts where they are replaced frequently after accidents and thus can charge what they like as insurance paid bodyshops just pass on the price.

yup mine need replacing and are doing exactly this.... I've had the bumper on and off way to many times and it seems the support is worn to hell now.

I wonder whether someone could manufacture some stronger pattern parts? I understand they're meant to break in a front end crash, but thats not good for us lowered guys who catch every bump :(

It would be simple to clamp the 2 flanges together from the inside, but as you say they are designed to be the break point. All you'll do is rip/bend the metal wing too.

I know this is an old thread but i bought these - http://exoracing.co.uk/2-x-25mm-exoracing-blue-bumper-boot-push-button-quick-release-pins-latch-lock-long/

Thanks for the idea! I think I might do it. The hole in the chassis is already there and the brackets would cost pretty much the same as a bumper, which it's the only part that would be modified. Any chance you can upload some photos when you'll have it done?

For £10 each side and it’s blue is perfect for me. I have BMW 313’s so the plastic brackets are no good for my future projects. I’m going to see if I can use the far side headlight bolt, however there is lots of metal there to drill an 8mm hole.

Pictures to follow

I was thinking the same! To use the bolt that's already there. I wouldn't like to drill any metal...

Project completed, Cost me £20, and borrowed some tools from my neighbour.
No need to drill the metal brackets only the front bumper, I removed the existing bolt and replaced with the 8mm rod.
