I am confused as to what the best thing is to do about servicing my 2010 Z4 23i sdrive BMW are way to expensive unless anyone knows how to get them done cheaply through BMW I think I may use my local garage who did look after my previous BMW Z4 2.0i 2007 model never had any problems always seems to do a good job.

Thing is this is a completely different beast and I do worry a bit but begrudge paying bucket loads for waffle can anyone advise please on best way to service cheaply without compromising quality.

What about service inclusive or CBS? :D

Give the dealer a call and ask the price. Whatever they tell you tell them it's too much and that you can't afford it and will have to shop around. Tell them you would prefer the dealer did the work and can they better the price. The dealers workshops are only busy the month before and the month after new registrations so this time of year with warmer weather and less cars braking down they are crying for work so haggle with them and get a deal.

Yes good Idea Quadracer I got a few arounf me so will try and play them off one another

All good advice from Quadracer.

If the dealer price is still too high another option is to use a good independent garage and ask them to use BMW original parts.

Ive just traded in a 6 year old 330d coupe against my new Z4 and got £1000 over Glasses trade in value despite the last service being at an independent with original BMW parts. The salesman indicated that full BMW history only affects the value to any significant degree on cars 4 years and under.

Search the threads as there are some ideas, like supplying your own parts like oil and plugs, OEM / BMW but not 50% inflated costs so you can save a bit a fair bit.

As said already shop around and talk to them, we are not corporate but private loyal owners.

But I need to say this, You have purchased a premium car for premium money and BMW will be more expensive to service and repair like over £100 + vat per hour (which drops as the car gets above 3+ years).

Good job its not every 12K miles now.

If its out of wrty and you have not extended the wrty then get it done by indi, But on the flip side would you purchase without full BMW history!!!. PX back to BMW may not be an issue selling Private may be and to other makes garage/ indi garage. Its just another thing that may be a tookl for them to drop the PX price. Me I always get the BMW stamp. My latest Z4 was prereged in Jan and was young enough to opt for the 5 year service inclusive for £425 (currently any car from Jan 2013 is entitled but unsure if this can be retrofitted). That's a no brainer

As Napastar said in his case it did not really affect his trade in PX but this depends on what the next car was and the real cost to change.

Personally if its in the 3 yr warranty go BMW if you intened to trade it in with them in the future.
If like me you buy a 3 yr old car with BM extended warranty thinking your buying a car without problems, think again.
Knocking noises rear end, tail lamps that fill with water, what value these warranties unless as i was told the engine or gearbox blows up, about the only things covered.
Thought i was buying a quality car.
Unless something major i won't be going anywhere near a BMW dealer.

Learn to service yourself, if you have the means.
I know this is not always possible, so find a friendly indy.

Remember, its a car, not a Space Shuttle, although the number of buttons you have to press before setting off on a journey, you would think so.

Flybobbie unsure about your BMW extended warty. The official BMW extended wtry comes with different choices and prices, but ware and tare may be the stumbling block.

My 10 plate only had tail light and front light fogging issues and were replaced 2 years ago and when I part ex it last week had no signs of it. Saying that my 28 miler has a cracked light which is going in on the 6th for a look. I will expect this to be replace. Other than that nothing.

Guys I really appreciate your input thanks, so far independent with BNW genuine parts is a good idea or what about for about £720 I can purchase service inclusive and get independent to do my brakes and replacement wiper blades etc.

Any idea how much a first service should cost?

My car has done 11,000 miles and BMW said all I need is an oil service, brake fluid service and there was something else which I cant remember.

They broke the price down as £175 for oiler service including 4.2 litres of oil at £82 (which I know is a rip off).

£62 for brake fluid service and the last thing was £50. (My mind has gone blank, I cant remember what it was).

Is it just me or is this ridiculously over priced?

Thanks in advance for any help!

mucchi unsure where you get £720 when the link below shows 450 for 2 years.

Im so glad I got 5 years for 425 as its reg after 1/1/13 well chuffed so no worries for oil top ups i will just pop in and get them to do it.

ut745 and all check what the car actually needs either look on the display or ask for a copy of the key data. This shows whats needed. Even the dealer gets confused, my 10 plate that did 14K in 2 years tried the full oil change on me when I took it in for brake oil change ( 2 years after build date not registration date). The main oil change was due 8K miles. So either check on the dash or get them to print the key data before work starts. 11K miles is low but the main oil does need a change after a time.

Thanks for the response.

Ive been searching various forums and all the people quoted 300 quid managed to get it done for 190 by going to other dealers. I told the women on the phone I wasnt willing to pay so much but she didnt care at all. There is clearly some margin for reduction in price and I'm disappointed after spending 50k on two cars with them within a year that they wouldnt reduce the price.

I got hold of another dealer 3 miles further away, initially they said the same 290 quid but reduced it to 220. I might just go for it since I can't be bothered arguing over an extra 20 quid or so.

This service is for my 3 series but when I go in to pick up my new z4 I will definitely give them a piece of my mind :o

ut745 if its a z4 reg in 2013 get the service inclusive 5 years 50K for £425. then sit back and sip the martini.

Just did this for my latest, so first time my oil level drops I will be passing by my dealer for a top up. May get them to give me a free bottle at the same time.

Yea I'm definitely going to get the service pack on the z4 when I pick it up at the end of June. 425 is an absolute bargain for 5 years/50k miles and oil top ups in between
