Z4 E89 cigarette lighter fuse - excellent service

First a word of caution to the cack handed like me. Probably best to not insert or remove power connections in cigarette lighter with engine on.

Had a connector for a POGO Alert in the cigarette socket which I removed only to find the plastic screw bit had come loose and along with the contact pin and the 3A fuse, was lying in the socket. Removed the bits with a tweezer and re-assembled the connector. However although the 3A fuse in that was found to be OK the main 20A fuse for cigar lighter circuit was blown. Can only think I hadn't switched off the engine when I removed it with the consequential damage. Engine too quiet at idle if radio on!

Took in today to Lloyds BMW/MINI Blackpool after contacting them yesterday for BMW quick service/repair scheme. Fixed under warranty in 30 minutes. Never had to ask but warned BMW probably might not again though, as problem was self inflicted. The fuse box isn't that easy to access and when it was exposed the technician took me into the workshop and showed me exactly how to remove the panel and replace fuses.

Excellent service with a smile. Does make your day when people are cheerful and go out of their way to help. Even offered a car clean which I declined as I was in a rush. The tech man was a German who had worked in America and gave the impression he could probably identify every screw and part in the car blindfold.

Do you happen to remember which fuse it is?

The little plastic card doesn't say which one.

BTW does your car have the additional power outlet in the driver's footwell? Our does not.

Remember reading this post originally, but now its been bumped I re-read it.

Nice to hear of good customer service from a dealer. Doesnt seem to be the norm in my world!
