Z4 e89 2.3 2012 overheat (?)

Hi everyone,
I just buyed a bmw z4 e89 2.3 from 2012 with 75k km
I’m enjoying the car so much also because is my first ever car and i only drove a panda before for learn driving. I have a couple of question to the most experienced z4 users because since I’m new I notice many things and I have no idea if it’s normal business or there is something wrong. First of all, I can open my roof with my keys from outside, but I can’t close it even if in the instruction books it say I should be able. Not a big deal anyway but I’m curious. Second i wonder if it’s normal that when I use the car even for really short distance (I’m kind of an aggressive driver) when I jump off the car on my front left wheel a lot of heat goes out. And overall when I go for longer distance it seems like the engine heat a lot. It’s a N52 6 straight natural aspirated btw. It happened to me that after a drive for a bit and I get home, I park the car and maybe after 4 hours I come back near the car and I fee the heat air come out especially from the front left wheels but also from the kidney grills even if less. Overall when I drive long distance and I push the car a lot when i jump off you feel the heat everywhere under the car and the exhaust goes tic tic. Idk maybe it’s all normal and I’m just a beginner. Keep in mind that the water temperature on the car never goes over the half (120) and no danger light turn on. Even when I find the car warm after some hours I finish drive I turn on and the water temperature is at the lowest. Thank you for your help and your patience reading this

I am no Z4 expert but I am an experienced driver.

If the coolant is not overheating but the brakes are then it seems you are simply pushing really hard. This seems odd that the Z4 is your first car, insurance cost must have been huge.

It's a bit worrying that you are a new driver and are a self confessed aggressive driver.

Yes opening the roof with the key fob but not being able to close it from the fob is normal

If you ever can’t open it from the fob then it’s probably the shelf isn’t secured properly or the battery might be a little flat

I’d say everything seems normal, they do tend to run hot, and by the way it’s oil temperature on the gauge not water.

For info the temperature gauge shows the oil temp not coolant temp..hence the picture of an oil can next to it!

What is the ambient temperature of where you are driving?

This engine does run very hot, so long as the coolant is not overheating then I would say there is no problem.

Yea, the insurance it’s crazy also since here in Italy if your car has more than 10 years it’s even harder to do insurance options. Anyway, yea but it also depend how you mean aggressive like I never take risky overtakes or drift and s**t like that I just like to push when the street let me, since i live in a little place outside of the city I have often this opportunity

Lately was from 25 to 30 degrees in the day and 12-17 in the night, pretty weird for be October but I’ll take it haha at least I can use it open roof!

Well the 2 days of the year in UK when it hits 30 C my cars oil temp. hits 120 and i get concerned, but i think that is the normal running temperature for my car if say it was based in say California. On average never gets anywhere neat to 120 on my 7 mile drive to work..

Combination of your driving style and ambient conditions will result in a hot engine…as long as oil temp doesn’t climb past 130c should be fine..

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned seized brake calipers.
If you are noticing excessive heat on one wheel, then chances are that you have a problem with the braking system.

Possibly a seized brake caliper that does not release the brakes/brake pads.
So the brake is constantly applied on the one wheel.
