Z4 E86 Oil level not measuring

Hello,

The oil level sensor on my E86 N52 keeps checking and not measuring. Was anyone able to find the root cause and a fix for this?
Mine keeps checking even after 30mins of driving. It never reports.

After reading this informative post:

I am thinking that the temperature sensor in the oil level sensor is not reading the oil temp, does that usually go bad? or maybe it needs cleaning.

Any advice is appreciate.

I would suggest just replacing it. There's temp and capacitance in it, not a lot to go wrong, doubt cleaning will help.

I'd agree with Scooba_Steve, replace it.

Otherwise you'll never know what the level is, and worse still it won't tell you when it gets to minimum. :o

I've got my 4th N52 now (in a 3 Series) and none has taken that long to show a reading, but they sometimes take longer than that to reflect the true level after a top-up.

Even this time of year 10 minutes is long enough to get a reading as I've got into the habit of checking regularly to be sure the level sensor is still working, and I know it is up to temperature if I want to rev it out a bit.

Ok, I figured I would do that and hopefully that will fix it, if it’s not something else.
It doesn’t seem like a common issue.

Actually, Cleaning might solve the problem specially if there is oil sludge around the temp sensor preventing it from reading
the actual oil temperature. In that case it will always read low oil temp and hence why it will be always checking.
I am more conviced after I saw the condition on this repair :o
