Well when you say you're going to chuck something in the bin and that it had cost you no money, offering it for free would be what most people would expect to be a fair thing, on this forum at least. I'm sure someone would have offered some money to you as a gesture, if taking it. Perhaps be more careful how you word things in future and then you won't receive responses like you did.
