Hi everyone, i am new in z4 community. I have a problem with the roof which wont open (it opens just slightly when i press the button). I can hear the motor but the roof is not moving. Can you please give me few directions where to start?

Thank you.

If its still in the original position its probably been drowned in water, you need to relocate the unit into the boot to revive the motor in all likelyhood. Until you can inspect it not a lot you can do to fix it. Just ensure the parcel shelf is in the fully down position and the red manual pull ring is in the correct closed position. If you have pulled the red ring there is a possiblility that the valve on the motor has stuck in and not allowing pressure to be made when the pump runs. You will have to relocate to the boot to check that and free it off if it is stuck.

Welcome to the forum. :) There are several forum members, around the country, who are good with roof problems. Worth letting us know your location, then we could literally point you in the right direction.

Welcome to the forum anyway.

Hopefully you can do a DIY fix as the forum members I know of are all in the UK!

Hi Deluxor,

If the motor is still working (you say you can hear it?) then it could be the same as mine that one of the hydraulic lines are broken. You should still relocate your motor but bare in mind that might not be fixing your problem!

I am looking to tackle fixing my hydraulic lines in the next few weeks so will check back to see if you need a hand.

Hi,

just to let you know we have managed to get the roof working. The problem was with the position of bouden cable in the trunk. No we have to clean the roof properly.

Following this post as need to top up my roof motor fluid. However the 4mm bolt is missing.
Dim question. Where is the best place get a replacement?
Thanks

Do you mean the one in the top of the reservoir?

Yes. Is it a standard Allen bolt?
Honestly, without looking I think so, but can't remember if it has a seal?
Suggest you put up a wanted ad and see if anyone has any old knackered ones laying about that you could rob a proper one from.

Had the same problem. will be water and dirt build up that has ruined the motor. i live in south devon but drove all the way to warrington to zedshed who refurbished and fixed it in 45 mins. i would go there trust me. then he puts motor in the boot so never happens again. do it!

Rolls1392 if you do need more than that or want to get the roof motor relocated into the boot "Number5" on here does this and is based in Bristol - much nearer than Warrington!

I have a 2009 E85 Z4 and the roof hydraulic motor has failed. Is there anyone on the Forum who can repiar or replace this? I live in Hertfodrshire.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.
What exactly are the symptoms of your failed roof motor? Any lights on? Does the front unlock? Can you hear the motor running in the boot?
Those answers may make it easier to help you.
I have done a few and am over in Norfolk. Stuart (bigwinn) has done even more and is in Lincoln.
Or there is Ross at RBM in Hook, Hampshire who could do it if you booked it in to his business.
Alan (Number5) is the one we all go back to when we get stuck, but he is over in Bristol.
