Z4 daily drive & a baby on the way! Can this work?

Congratulations first of all. It's both ultra tiring and ultra rewarding all at the same time so enjoy this time before baby arrives to go out, stay up, have fun, meet mates etc etc etc as it's difficult but not impossible to do so in the early months. Mini Inkey$ is 7 months old now and I was in exactly the same situation as you a short while ago.

I had two cars - a Y reg Golf for runs to the shops and town use and a Z4MC in the garage. In my mind at the time were the words 'keep', 'don't sell' and 'you'll make it work'. That lasted about 6 months after my son was born. I kept the Golf for the GF to use as normal, sold the MC and bought a fast 4 door 3 series for me to have some fast family fun in. I too looked at costs to keep the MC in the garage when hardly using it, tax, insurance etc and made the decision after much soul searching - convincing myself that I needed to use my head not my heart in situations such as this now I was a dad.

The problem is I made sort of the wrong decision...

Three cars wasn't an option (although kudos to those that have gone down this route because if it had been an option I'd have been all over it like white on rice) and what I should have done was keep the MC, sell the old Golf and get either a newer Golf or small 3 series (the gf doesn't like driving 'big' cars). That way we could have used this new family car for most things and the Zed would have been used for fun. Money wise I could have sorned it during winter and reduced my insurance.

Hindsight is a wonderful [horrible] thing. My honest advice is to really think carefully about what you do. Then think some more.

Good luck and best wishes with it all

Cheers for the advise inkey, think im going to keep it for a while and see how I go :D if i struggle to get it to work then it will have to go, but i can at least try

Ill more than likely find a run about to get me through winter anyway so the real test will be this time next year when ill start using it again

Keep it!

I sold my previous similar (S2K) when no1 arrived and have missed it ever since then No2 arrived an i thought that was it, dull cars till they are 18....eventually I couldn't take the tedium of a 4 door saloon anymore and bought a Z4 last month, it was like having a soul again :-)

the running cost of 3 cars is upsetting, but life is too short for boring cars (except on nursery runs)
