z4 coupe tyres - anything worth considering instead of Vredestein?

A quick look on BlackCircles give me the following options for 225/40 18's:

Avon ZV7
Yokohama Blue-Earth AE50
Pirelli P-zero Nero GT
Goodyear Efficient grip performance
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A
Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2
Goodyear Eagle F1

All at just under £100 each fitted.

Are Vredestein Ultrac Vorti still a better bet?

I've got two sets of wheels one with eagle f1s as3s and one with advan 105s and I prefer the 105s.

I rate Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s or 3s. I've personally had 2s on my car several times, and have tried 3s on a friends FWD 300hp volvo. They're a great tyre, nice and progressive, good dry grip, good wet grip, and last well too. They didn't particularly like track work, they overheated and went quite hard on the rears after two trackdays, but that did make them quite entertaining in the wet afterwards :lol:

Never heard of Nokian, a Finnish company so I guess they'd know a bit about tyres given their rally driving record! Once part of Nokia and now partly owned by Bridgestone.

And while googling, I found this handy reference to who's who in tyres! (how sad am I?)

Michelin - France
Worlds number one tyre manufacturer. Own the brands Michelin, BF Goodrich, Kleber, Uniroyal* and Riken.

Bridgestone - Japan
One of the original big three. Own the brands Bridgestone, Firestone, Daytona and Europa.

Goodyear Dunlop - USA
Goodyear recently merged with Dunlop to form one of the largest tyre manufacturers in the world. Own the brands Dunlop, Goodyear, Fulda, Falken and Kelly.

Yokohama - Japanese
A brand in themselves, Yokohama claim to be the 7th biggest manufacturer in the world.

Pirelli - Italy
Pirelli claim to be the 5th largest tyre manufacturer in the world. Most of it's retail is through the Pirelli brand but have more recently released the Ceat and Courier brands.

Cooper Tyre - USA
Cooper recently bought the Avon brand. They now own Cooper, Avon and Mastercraft.

Continental - Germany
Owns Continental, Uniroyal*, General Tyre, Gislaved and Semperit.

Toyo - Japan
Toyo are one of the newer budget performance tyres to market. Formed many partnerships around the globe.

Kumho - Korea
Kumho is also a budget road tyre with a strong sporting range.

Apollo - India
Apollo now own Vredestein.

* To add to confusion Uniroyal is Continental owned in Europe and Michelin owned in USA



tyrereviews.co.uk seems to like Veredestein best though...

Vreds a great choice & as close to characteristics of a Michelin as I've found but generally 20%/25% cheaper
Doubt you'd be disappointed op

I like the Vreds (Ultrac Sessanta) on my E85, wearing well good grip and not bad in the wet either :wink:

Well I currently have the Veredesteins on, so looks like I'll replace like with like.

I was just wondering if there was anything better for the same money...

Now it's time to play Russian Roulette with the local tyre places to get them fitted... Our local place actually fitted tyres to our ford, even though they knew their balancing machine was fooked... :headbang:

So any recommendations for Weymouth/Poole/Bournemouth/Dorchester area for decent tyre fitters?

If Christchurch isn't too far then I had a good experience with Christchurch Tyre co when I had an alignment done. They were more than happy to set it up how I wanted and added weight to the drivers seat. No experience with tyre fitting but I'd happily go back as the guys I dealt with seemed to be in to their cars and understood that they're not just pieces of metal to some of us.

Personally I'd steer clear of Protyre in Poole-I had a very poor experience with them some time ago and would rather push my car home than have them near it!
