Z4 Coupe - Manual

Hello everyone, I’ve been a silent member of this forum for some time now and am finally in a position where I can look to buy a Z4 Coupe.

I’ve had my eye on these for literally years, always loved the styling and that straight six engine. I don’t like the way the car industry is going with electric or turbo charging, so I am looking for a well-maintained example which I will continue to care for, hopefully long into the future.

My budget is £8,000

Ideally looking for the following:
  • Favourite colour would be Ruby Black Metallic, but would consider the other shades of black and the dark blues
07 / 08 plate with the updated engine with the black cover
    Below 80,000 miles
    Full Service History
    Manual
    Sport spec, not the SE
    Xenons
No Sat-Nav, I think dash looks much cleaner without

Other options I would like, but not essential would be:
  • Piano black dash
    Parking sensors
    Heated seats
    Electric folding mirrors
    Aux input

I live down in Bournemouth, a local-ish car would be fantastic, but given the rarity I am quite happy to travel for the right one.

TIA

Evening Benny , welcome to the forum .
Budget should see you into something that ticks your boxes though maybe not on your doorstep :(

Thanks for welcome

Yeah hopefully my budget will give some options. I did message these guys today https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202002087114030

£10.5k is a bit optimistic and it has been for sale for a while, but i've not heard back from them since mentioning my budget haha!

I'm not in any major rush, would rather wait for the right one at the right price.

Welcome to the forum Benny.

You may need to travel to get what you want as based on a database someone on here put together the UK only got just over 2,000 manual Coupes, and that includes the SE models!

Especially when you start to factor in your preferred options - power-fold mirrors seem to be particularly rare. My 1st was about 60 miles away in Portsmouth and my 2nd was about 120 miles away in Rugby.

But the one advertised in your link looks very ambitiously priced. I sold my Ruby Black Sport with Pearl Grey heated seats, HiFi stereo and Bi-Xenons for less than that in 2016 when it was on 62K miles!

Aux-In seems to have become standard for cars built some time around September 2006, but I believe it isn't too difficult to retro-fit. It had been retro-fitted to my Montego Blue Coupe, but I didn't realise for a few months because the socket had been put in the glove-box.

Good luck anyway - they are great cars.

Thanks Tidy

Yeah i'm happy to travel for the right car.

Just out of curiosity, why did you switch from the ruby black car to the montego blue? Were they differently spec'd in other ways as well?

Cheers

It's a bit of a saga, but I took work-place pensions early in April 2014 (so used some of the lump-sum to buy my Ruby Black) then left my part-time job in October 2015 because we got a new manager I just couldn't get on with. :(

Then in December 2015 the electric water pump died and my Indy bought the replacement from BMW for over £500, so I got a bill of £800+ and I wasn't sure that was sustainable.

So when a forum member was looking for an E86 I sent some details and he came and test drove it. The next day I took it for a final drive and realised what I would be missing, but he called me that evening to put a deposit on it and as he had come from Suffolk to Berkshire to see it I couldn't bring myself to change my mind.

Which is why I took the deposit and went looking for it's replacement which had done more miles so was a fair bit cheaper, but then I preferred Montego Blue anyway! And with the difference in costs I thought it might be sustainable for a while, which turned out to be true as I had it until February 2020.

So Ruby Black went on 10 May 2016 and Montego Blue arrived on 12 May 2016.

Then last December another forum member was wanting to sell his Z4M Coupe before Christmas, so as I could just about afford it a deal was done and I collected it on 19 December 2019.

I do like E86s.
