Z4 coupe hatch / tailgate

Having studied composite materials in the past, I came up with the idea of a winter project: the creation of a full carbon fiber z4 coupe hatch.

Now, I don't fancy removing mine as it may take a several weeks to finalise the mould, so I'm in the lookout for a rear hatch.

If you have one spare laying around and now someone who does please let me know. Must be straight, scratches are fine.

I can get out on ebay shipped from Lithuania for around 320 GBP, but I'm looking for a cheaper alternative.

kind regards,
Gustavo

Sounds interesting although I would have never thought of that. May I ask what is the final objective, weight reduction I presume?

Weight reduction but also reinforcement since in order to install a large wing (like APR GTC-200) we need load spreader plates to prevent metal deformation. But the main objective is still to have fun creating something unique.

Wing & above-mentioned load spreader plates below:

That's a serious wing indeed :o
This came up today:

(damn, seeing the pictures of wrecked coupe just gave me the chill!)

Best of luck with getting a hatch for your experiment, and don't forget to post here the results...!

You know someone already makes these right? Around £2k I think, might be cheaper than doing it yourself, but perhaps not...

Yes, they ask £2975 for a race-spec non-sight carbon fiber hatch:

I'm aiming to do a road-spec hatch including inner skin designed to take all plastic trims, original glass and latch mechanism, finished off with visible carbon fiber. Let's see how it goes! :)

I estimate it will cost me around the 800 GBP mark including the purchase of a hatch but excluding the probably hundred of hours of work. It will be a long winter

Good stuff! and good luck!
I think the company I was thinking of was Goke, they made my airbox.
If you fancy doing two, let me know :D
