Dear all,

RE SARIS BONES bike racks

I know its been touched on many times before and I have read the links to date, however, I thought I would just ask if anyone has had any long term problems with fitting a SARIS BONES 2 bike rack.
I see the piccys and am concerned that the top edge of the glass is a bit vulnerable.
Can you comment please.

I did see on another forum that a member managed to fit a roof rack to the coupe using the feet and bars from a 7 Series.

I haven't been able to find out any more, but it looked a really good set up from what I could see. I would do it if I could find more info on it!

It looked awesome as well!
 
Depends what you mean by long term problems. Used mine a few times and no issues to date as weight is mainly distributed towards the lower feet.

Sorry to drag up an old post, but what sort of speed is safe on the motorway with the saris bones? I've never driven with a bike rack so have no idea?

I used to do normal speeds no problem. Never went crazy but keep within speed limits and you'll be fine.

Best advice is always to secure bikes, drive a few miles, stop and check, re tighten and off you go again!
 
Think you could get that to work on your roadster inkey$, or is the back of the boot lid too low for the harness to hold securely ?

Ok great. Thinking of getting the saris 2, although I've heard a full sus frame can sometimes be a bugger to get on there.

Is it quick and easy to get on there?

Havent tried it yet on the roadster. The angles might not work due to lack of rear screen.
 
This is my solution and I regulalry tarsnport 2 downhill mountain bikes with this and it's great. The track I go to is around 50 miles away with a mix of dual carriageway driving and twisty back ropads and it's never been anything than rock solid!

Saris bones works great. Super stable and no marked paintwork. Get the hatch huggers too.

Only downside - Nothing is locked on so you cannot leave it unattended or bye bye bike ( and maybe rack too) :cry:
 
That set up looks great - i'd never seen the Gran Fondo, and had been wary of the bones. Off to do a bit more research but given the amount of my disposal income that i spend on bikes, and the amount i spend on cars i dont think the Saris is too bad value...

I also would be interested in the roof rack bodge. thanks, Liam
