Z4 Coupe 3.0 SI E86 Repair manual recommendations?

Hi Guys,

New to the forum. First real post besides saying hello in newbie section.
Just aquired a BWM Z4 coupe. Im hoping very much to one day become adept at repairing, servicing, maintaining it all myself. Im coming at it from being a complete beginner... not just my first BMW, but first time Im serious about learning how to look after the car myself.

I think the first step for me is getting hold of a decent repair manual, either digital or physical. Haynes, eManual etc.
To all the guys that are handy and do a lot of the work yourselves, what manual do you recommend?

My first two jobs... Oil/filter change and troubleshooting the inoperable parking sensors. I think I can manage these two jobs with the right manual.

Cheers

James

Hi
Not sure there is a Haynes manual for our Zds but may be able to help on the sensors I have seen articals that refer to them not working if water has got in them from a pressure washer ( never aim the jet into the sensors ).
Also that by spaying WD40 into them this will clear out any water and may get them working .
Look up on you tube.

Nice, thanks for the tip.

All sensors appear to be vibrating when put in reverse. I simply get no tone which leads me to suspect its the control unit. Either way, before I start taking off the body panels, Id like to have a decent read of a maintanance manual so I know exactly how to proceed according to factory standards.

Use the forum search function or look up your topic in the e85/e86 “how to” section. The best guide is to read about how somebody else has done it with the same tools and background. They will often share there mistakes and workarounds which a manual will not do.

If you’re not happy with that, there is the BMW technical manual NewTIS; and Pelicanparts have some well respected online tutorials.

Just having a look through that forum section right now, cheers. Will check out those manual suggestions also.
Thanks for your input.
