z4 - Climate control - can I calibrate it before I cook?

I have a e86 with climate control. All seems to ok, except I need to keep the temp one notch above fully cold or it get tropical in the car. Not ideal.

Fan works (albeit a bit noisy) Flaps appear to work (up down etc) and it'll blow hot and cold).

I took the control unit out (getting to the clip is a real ***), and it was bordering on a health hazard. All cleaned up, including what looked like the temperature sensor.

Alas, now re-installed and no difference.

Any suggestions what next. Try a new second hard control unit? Anyone got one on sale or return to try (I'll provide beer money if I return it!)

Worth swapping for another to check

What’s your external temp showing?

Whilst I've not calibrated the external sensor, assuming its the same as feeds the display, then it's OK. Goes BEEEP loudly when it's freezing, which invariably frightens the life out of my - something that urgent must be zero oil pressure as a minimum, and it does move up the gauge in warmer weather.

Sounds ok- I recall if that sensor is duff it impacts internal a/c operation

If you have inpa you can check operation of all actuators and any codes

Do you exclusively use the auto setting?

Since I have been using my Z4 as a daily I find i get too hot using auto and one notch above the coldest temp setting.

The auto setting sends all the hot air down into the footwells. If I adjust the direction dial to halfway between feet and face I can set the temp to 20c and I don't over heat. Move the face vents so they don't blow on you.

Hope that helps 👍

I had to check which was the auto button!
No I never use it, always off.
