Z4 and Iphone

Hi guys, im new to the forum so be gentle.

Im just about to graduate from uni and leave my life of being a student tax dodger behind, ive been thinking about my first motor and i really want a z4 and Id be looking at a smaller engine size for insurance reasons.

What i really want know is how feasable it is to get my iphone integrated with the car? by that i mean playing the music on it through the radio whilst having bluetooth calls aswell?? When looking at second hand z4's is there anything i should be looking for on the car to make this process easier? Also i plan on changing the steering wheel for multifuction msport one, will these buttons work with the iphone?

There are several after market options....will let others with more experience give you suggestions
However as for OEM don't believe there is any option
Only recently has BMW released a USB factory fit (for the 1 Series ) that allows calls and music.The iPhone does not transmit music over B/T
only voice calls therefore the solution is wired .
You can get a BMW ipod connection for c£350 installed and of course use B/t for calls

A large subject more specific answers would depend on car Spec ie whether it has B/T etc and age
 
The iphone does transmit music over bluetooth but I doubt the BMW bluetooth unit will be equipped to deal with it. I ran bluetooth music in my last car via the iphone with no problems.
 
Thanks wegras and NikB, as i say i havent bought a car yet so im unsure of age and spec, i havent got a great deal to spend so im probably looking at a car for around the 13k mark. I was thinking of using a cable for the music then maybe this would keep the phone charged aswell? If a was to get an ipod connection for the car would the mulitfunction wheel work with this? Also if i bought a car without bluetooth how easy would it be to fit and what would the cost estimates be? I did see on the BMW website the 'snap in' adapters for the iphone, are these literally just a phone holder or could the ipod connection wire be run to the adarter too?

as youve probably guessed im not particularly knowledgeable about cars.
 
As far as I know the snap in adaptor will not integrate the iphone with the car's headunit. It would be great if it did. It's basically a holder in the space between the seats that charges the phone.
Retrofitting bluetooth isn't cheap and in my experience the bluetooth in the Z4 with the iphone is awful. I've had extremely poor call quality on most calls though occasionally it has been fine.
If you do a search there is info regarding which methods of connection will work with the mfsw but I don't know which these are.
 
With my intravee i have had an iphone playing music (mfsw controls and track details on the nav screen) and paired via the bmw BT for voice calls.

Only if the B/T is A2DP enabled which older Z4 are not ....not even sure if latest model is A2DP compliant ...anyone know ?

...your best bet is an intravee or Parrott gets good reports, unless the car you find is well equipped
beware an early Bluetooth car as the solution the eject box that is part of the B/T OEM setup needs to be replaced to take the iPhone snap in cradle
and this starts to get expensive .Also OEM Nav system handle things differently from a non Satnav car ie with just the Business radio Head unit
Get the car you want then work out the most cost efficient solution :)
 
If it's just music streaming you're after... you could plug an A2DP compliant bluetooth receiver in the AUX input. This doesn't give you remote controle capabilities, but removes some of the cable mess.
 
With that budget, I'd go for the 3.0i, should get a nice pre-facelift for less than 12k.

Insurance wasn't a lot different for me between the sizes, and I knew if I bought not the top one then I'd regret it in my mind. Running costs aren't massively different anyway.
 
i got a QI system from the O2 shop, an engineer comes out and fits it into your car, your iphone works through your radio with bluetooth and it plays your music from the iphone ok.
