Z4 Alpina

Hi guys,

Im fresh onto this site.

I have a z4 alpina that I recently bought from a dealer, the gearbox, specifically second gear is screwed. Its been bqck to the dealer and had a CDV delete but the problems now back. I put it into second release the clutch and I get a hard grinding and it pops out. If anyone can give me any idea at whats going on so I can hand it to the dealer to fix would be greatly appreciated.

Looks very tidy, nice to see another red Alpina - #284, I believe?

If it came with a warranty, it shouldn't be down to you to diagnose the problem - if you're worried that the dealer won't/can't diagnose it correctly, it's worth spending a little at a decent independent garage to get them to tell you exactly what's wrong and give you an estimate for the repair - you can then tackle the dealer with that rather than your own opinion of what needs doing

Don't know the number without going to look if im honest lol.

Yeh the dealer was being quite good but the garage he used to repair that and the rear sensor hit something on the front end and have split my spliter and ruined the paint around the sensor. The gearbox is now my major issue. Hes ignoring my emails so will have to call him tomorrow and have a word. Thanks for your comments, will see lots of me on here I suspect lol.

No problem, it's worth persevering as they're lovely cars

If a garage damaged the front bumper, they should be insured for this sort of thing and you should insist on a new replacement, don't just leave it thinking you'll do it later - Alpina-specific parts can be eye-wateringly expensive, if you don't believe me, phone Sytner BMW in Nottingham (the UK Alpina HQ) and ask for the cost of a replacement

What was the gearbox like on the test drive before purchase - or has this happened since you got it....?

Nice looking motor hope you get it sorted. I can see why you bought it, they look very special in red.
As already mentioned get the dealer to sort it.

@PerryGun, were the gearboxes on these out of the BMW parts Bin or were they Alpina specific? :driving:

According to the Alpina press releases it's a 'ZF S6-37 six-speed manual gearbox, developed to ALPINA specifications'... so not a BMW part bin item

Thanks for the input guys,

Gearbox was ok when bought, it went funny a few weeks after purchase has recently been back to his gargage but all he did was a CDV delete and ruined the front and rear bumper.

I have a feeling im gonna to have to start threatening, im fully prepared to go all out to get it repaired as its was biuggt with a warrenty that he so far hasnt held up against.

Ive had no response from him at all now. Will update you my progress, thats for the info guys.

Talk to Trading Standards, they should be able to advise you of the best course of action...

If you bought the car on finance ,get in touch with them as its technically their car until the loan is payed off .
I have had a similar issue in the past ,when Santader were behind me the dealer seemed to be more helpful.
