Z4 35i potential purchase

Hi All

Currently have a Z3MR after previously running a Z4MR at the same time and currently have an Alfa 4C as a bit of a toy (christ did i buy that Alfa at the right time!) I'm tempted to add a Z4 35i or is to the collection and had a couple of questions...

I drove a 28i M Sport 5 years ago and recall it being extremely firm. The Alfa is a dream in comparison. I removed the run flats off previous cars which made a huge difference. Is this a simple process with tyre pressure monitors in place?

I've seen a few with the later M3 alloy wheels. Not to contradict the above "extremely firm" notion but are they a straight swap onto the existing hubs?

I've seen a couple without wind deflectors. Are these as simple to fit as in the e85? ie retro-fit the brackets and slot the deflector in place?

Most seem to have bluetooth. Is bluetooth music streaming an option or standard?

I think that's all for now

Thanks

CJ

Welcome.

So much of what people perceive is driven by the amount of modifications or changes and what the original spec was.

The combination of BMW 19” wheels, their run flats and MSport suspension meant for most people that they saw that combination resulted in harsh ride and poor steering.

With modern non run flats most of the wheel sizes seem to result in an adequate ride. 17” and 18” will always ride better than the standard profile 19”

Apparently 437Ms as they use the stock offsets are a straight fit even with much wider tyres.

Retrofitting a wind defector is easy but will cost £200-£300.

The bluetooth is a pain..you need to get the extended Bluetooth to stream music.

Best to discuss with the gurus here your possible choice before you buy and they can advise on all these subtle options.

There is a lot of debate about 35i versus 35is but the simple view is if you can get the add one in a 35i you will save a bit of cash. The engine can be tweaked to the same level as the 35is. Adaptive dampers on the 35is seem to be a problem waiting to happen. There are many common faults that will get you in the end. Warranty or a deep wallet are your friends.

M2/M3/M4 wheels will fit no problem, they have the same offsets and are only an inch wider.

With regards to 35i vs 35is, decide what spec/condition/mileage you want and then buy the first one that matches.

The E89 is very different to both the Z3M and AR4C, so I would definitely test drive before deciding whether it's a worthwhile addition to your fleet. Bear in mind that tyre and suspension changes can make a huge difference to how it feels and drives.

Thanks for the input guys - much appreciated.

I see the notes about warranties etc. After how much i spent in 18 months of Z4MR ownership I'd like to think it wont be anywhere close to that level!
