Looking at getting back into a Z4 after 5 yrs in a Boxster, My last Z4 was a 2004 2.5 and the reason i sold it was because of the harsh ride even after removing run flats. I was looking for any advice about the ride quality between an m sport and non m sport would the non m sport be a more comfortable ride any advice would be appreciated.

Four things effect ride quality on E89s…

MSport vs Stock..some deterioration in ride quality but nowhere as bad as same jump on E85s

Wheel rim size… 19” worst 18” most folks find ok

Tyre profile..30 worse than 35 than 40

OE runflats vs anything else…OE runflats are appalling in all regards

So 19” MSport on runflats bad..

17” on non runflats…lush

18” MSport non runflats few people complain..

I have recently bought an E89 3.0 auto which had 18 inch alloys and bridgestone runflats. Ride wasn't great but liveable. For this type of car, was harsh even compared to my F87 M2.

Just bought a set of 19s and have Goodyear assym 6s (non-runflats) all round, I have also gone for a slightly higher profile at the rear (both to get a better cushion and the higher profile tyre is less than 2/3rds the cost of the standard tyres). So now have 255/35/19s in the rear.

Even though i have gone an inch up on the wheels, ride is still significantly better than the 18s on runflats and I am enjoying this set up. Plus, the wheels look a lot better in my opinion. Moved from 293s to 296s.
