Z4 3.0i..... what is classed as high mileage?

Hi all..... my zed has just ticked over the 88k mark in terms of mileage, whilst she is meticulously looked after (oil & filter changes, coolant flush, gearbox oil etc all recently done) i'm starting to wonder how much longer she'll stay reliable for?. so, what is classed as high mileage for these engines? this is the highest mileage car i've ever owned so i'm in unknown territory!. Now i'll be honest and tell you all that it was bought as a cat C insurance write off but the damage was very minor and superficial (bodywork panels) and it was checked over by a close friend who actually makes his living from buying and selling cat D & cat C cars, and after getting the green light from him, i parted with a relatively small amount of money and here i am on here talking to you lovely lot. I suppose what i'm after is a bit of reassurance from those who have maybe been in a similar position and have got the jitters about the mileage issue, it's not like i don't know how to look after a car myself, its the unknown zone i find myself in now more than anything, (how long before something expensive breaks!). Only doing around 6k miles a year in it offers some comfort i suppose. But when all is said and done, i really do love this little car, i mean look at her, how could i possibly let her go!

I've seen plenty (forum cars) go well over 100k without any issues.

Didn't one forum member (cool z4) get his over 200k?

If it's got good service history then 100k is perfectly fine for a six cylinder, they are pretty bullet proof if well maintained

This mileage thing does my head in , modern cars now will do 250k miles without blinking , no one knows it because they all flap out at the mystical 100k , there's plenty of commercial vehicles running around quite happily with over 200k on them .
And nothing gets driven as hard as a white van

Iv just bought a 3.0l on a 03 plate and has done 122k. The mileage has not put me off and ended with what I think is a real bargain. Full bmw service and it's been very well looked after. I read these engines are very good if serviced regularly which I will carry on doing.

I plan on keeping for a very long time so if you love yours keep it is my advise just keep up the regular services and enjoy it!

In April I sold a Z3 2.0 six cylinder on a W plate and 135,000 miles.

Within a week I had four people enquire and one of whom paid a deposit and came back at the weekend with the rest of tHe cash.

Like your Z4, it made been meticulously maintained and was in better condition (and probably drove better) than Z3s with a third of the mileage.

It didn't go for bottom dollar either. Advertised at £3,350 and sold for £3,000 cash. :D

Condition and evidence of care are all important. I read some where that the average mileage for a car in the Uk is around 11,000 miles a year, so you could argue that your car is low mileage.

However, I've just bought a coupe with only 42,000 miles....

I'd suggest that if you are selling it, the insurance write off will deter more potential buyers that the mileage.

Ive seen much heavier X5's with the same engines rocking well over 200k. I think with any modern car in the last decade or so, the engine if well maintained will be the last thing to worry about!

Before I bought my 75k 06, I made inquiries at local bmw independent garage. Was told the 6 cylinders were the best engine in terms of design and reliability and they didn't expect any issues until well past 100k -150k if seviced per schedule. The 4 cyclinder, not so as they suffer with oil leaks on high mileage cars apparently..

Mine is currently sitting at 109k miles. It is properly looked after and looks like the previous owner looked after her too. I have had no problems with mine yet apart from really minor things such as the seatbelt sensor. but nothing mechanically wrong with the engine. I would not be worrying at all if I had a car with 88k miles on the clock. Infact, I dont think I have ever had a car with as low a miles as that!

This

My e46 with the same 3.0 m54 is on 125k and counting.

Aside from preventative maintenance (water pump, disa valve, ccv pipes and valves) that will be done this summer, it's running well.

This was mine yesterday:

Engines running lovely. Recently done a few bits to it so i'd expect it to. Absolutely love driving it so I won't be getting rid anytime soon.

Wouldn’t worry about mileage in the slightest as long as you maintain it properly. UK unfortunately has a thing about 100k, but if you look at German and European markets… cars are regularly run over 200k if not 300k. All comes down to how the owner maintains the car. Of course things wear out, but if you like the car, and have nothing else in mind to replace it with then, then just make sure you don’t skimp on maintenance, and car will be fine for a very long time independent on what engine it has.

You only need to look at one owner high mileage M6s out there (a car notorious for a having engine go kaboom). Only reason they go kaboom is not listening to what bmw recommends.

Hahahah just saw it come up and clicked on it… 2015???? Hahaha

I have just bought a 2009 30i for my 60th birthday. (Insert jokes here) .In my youth I bought old bangers and ran them until they needed something then scrapped em. For the past twenty years I have taken out new cars on PCP deals. That was great as I needed them to be faultlessly reliable or fixed under warranty. My z30i has 78k miles and it seems as strong and smooth as any new car I ever had. I will probably keep it until I die. ( Hopefully some years from now) it's in better shape than me. With just a few creaks from the door cards etc.
