Z3M vs Z4M as a future classic

The Z4mc isnt eligible for classic car insurance yet but the Z3M is which is what I assume you mean? Needs to be over 10 years old.

Thats what I thought until they offered classic ins.

Interesting. The criteria for classic car insurance is 10 years old, The oldest Z4M is 2006 so that is 6 years, I wasn't offered it and insured mine normally haven't heard anyone else having a Z4M insured under classic car insurance.

Does say that companies can offer it to any car over 5 years old tho.

I think if you hang onto anything long enough it will be a classic

However, to make it a classic worth some $$ there has to be a couple items:
1. low production numbers
2. high end model for that production series
3. strong performing car
4. great looking

I believe both cars fit all 4 if you are looking through your BMW glasses, however, if you take those glasses off I believe the Z4MC hits all marks where the Z3MC falls short on 3 & 4

Love the looks of them both :) Z3MC crazy looking but it works somehow. Z4MC elegant design, one of BMWs very best IMO, and that's coming from a roadster club member!

Rarity will see them both regarded as cult classics, but really most 'M' cars have a cult status. Neither's ever going to make you a shed load of money in 'chasing classics'. :)

If you want an investment buy a terraced house to renovate in Doncaster, it will be the new Oxford in 10 years  .

Sammyz, i hear what you're saying but I'm not really looking for an investment, just the one that's likely to best hedge against depreciation as car's are generally a pretty bad ways of making money due to costs of keeping them on the road etc.

As far as a house goes, I play the lottery every week as this is my best way of buying in South West London :(

Or you could get the house first and then think about getting a car! :poke:

Lol, Peddy you're absolutely right but given the need to save in the region of 60k for a deposit I figure a very low depreciating car would not set me back too far int he house stakes :D

The draw of that S54 engine is oh so tempting!!

Ther are some great Z4Ms about for sale at present and you get a hell of a lot of car for your money. Ideally don't be too bothered about colour as they all look great IMO as long as the interior isn't too odd :(

£15k should net you a low mileage car in excellent condition. Wouldn't be bothered about the year really as there were no facelifts to the 'M's, condition and impeccable service history is everything on these cars. Will loose £500/£1,000 a year in deprecation depending on the miles you do. That will eventually stop and be entirely condition/mileage dependant in another four or five years.

I couldn't agree with you more. My Z3MC has been heavily modded for that reason and it knows its way around The Ring very well! :driving: The same reason that I'm sorting the suspension etc. of my Z4MC.

Anyway its pretty to think like this anyway you will have to have the car 10-15 even 20 years and not really drive it to keep it immaculate and low milage and IMO thats not what they are for. It would be a big investment just to keep it that long and keep it immaculate! Drive the arse off it, look after it and above all enjoy it.
+1
