Z3m coupes...

Maybe I'm posting this in the wrong section but thought it's worth a shot..

Having owned a few m cars over th years including a beautiful red z4mc, I've been drawn to the z3m for quite some time.
I have driven a couple o the years and know the z4m is a newer, better overall car to drive so let's get that out of the way first.
However, for me the z3mc does look better.
The prices just seem to have doubled over the past 2-3 years and they just seem to be climbing every month! Had anybody owned both?
From my experience of driving a ayes z3m a few times, I found on local roads the suspension was ore forgiving and I actually preferred the feel of the seats. The z4mc obviously has the better engine than most z3mc (s50s) but there is something about the older car.
What would £20k buy me?

Not much.

Ther is only one sub £20k Coupe for sale on PH and that's a knackered old dog.

Must admit I have also loved the Z3MC and would much prefer one to a Z4MC.

The Z4MC looks too much like a normal Z4C to my eyes (which is not necessarily a bad thing) whereas the Z3MC looks like nothing else on the road.

love one id probably swap the wife for one....no i really would
There are plenty of M3 coupes around...what's stopping you :poke:

I drove one many years before I bought my Z4M, I only knew I couldn't fit in a Z3Coupe. I could just about fit in a Z4 Coupe so the choise was easy, also the Z3 looks soooo old now while the Z4 still look fresh.
(Also the Fiat Coupe I had at the time was much faster so the pace of the Z3MCoupe didn't impress either)

I think the Z3 roadster has aged better than the coupe but then they were designed with a retro take from the start so are pretty timeless design wise, the mk1 Z4 far less so although strangely the the Z4 Coupe to me has a slightly timeless design.

Ah the Fiat Coupe  if only I could afford to run one. They were proper quick in there day.

Z4C looks just fine to me. though Mrs G thinks it a dog. :? I also prefer the look of the Z3C over the Z4C, all day long, proper bullish back end 8) . Alas yet another fine car I simply don't fit in though.

I have had both..

I had an S50 facelift Z3M coupe in titanium silver ..

Lovely car, and very special...I don't think you will go wrong with price, although £20k is strong money. I paid £8800 for mine 5 years ago.

If you are thinking of getting into one for that kinda money I would wait for a decent S54 engined model, they are where the money is ..

The Z4MC does drive better but you would expect that just through development era's...

Both are great cars,

Both are great cars,

How long is it since you've looked at the prices of Z3MCs for sale?

Your old car looks great in silver by the way. The colour really accentuates that lovely rear end.

It's been a while, if there all £20k plus then that's fair enough..

Personally I wouldn't buy one at that price point to use, they are just a Z3 and drive like a broken trolley jack... as an investment then that's fair enough

A good one does not drive badly at all. I have driven a tired example and also a good example. S54 examples are well over £30k unless one that is near 150k miles. I think its not easy finding many good ones under £20k.
The way it seems to be going, there wont be any available under £30k.

Nice car,right colour,sensible miles ...

Under £20k and not sold..

Ooh, very nice.

Just need to find the money. :( Back of the sofa didn't help - can't swap the Mrs, she already lives somewhere else!

Need a Plan B. :scratchhead:

I walked away from a 60K mile Z3M Coupe in 2014. The asking price was £8K but I probably could have got it for £7.5K. I thought I could find a better example for the same money :headbang:
I subsequently failed to buy one for £14K and a third for £20K. Soon, I'll be able to not buy one for 25 or even £30K :x
There's no doubt they don't handle as well as the Z4MC and there are faster cars around, but that's not terribly relevant if you appreciate them for what they are. I had some difficulty accommodating the size of my feet and the length of my legs, but I would happily cope if I owned one!

It depends on what you mean by "what they are"?

A hodgepodge of E30 and E36 bits or a rare edition bmw ?

Credit where it's due, I love the bum on an M coupe. Always have always will, but the bad suspension, bad rear carrier design that rips out the boot floor like an E46 and general tardy driving experience doesn't put this car up in there..

Bmw fanboys love em, and that creates the market...
