Just had a call from the local dealer, sorry stealer to advise me of a couple of points as my car has gone in for a oil service.

The rear tyres are near end of life which I knew, they quoted me a price (didnt ask them to) for new Bridgestone RFT of £296 each.

I dont know what planet they are on, just doing a quick check at blackcircles.com they are £186

They are taking pictures of the corossion on the wheels also for warranty, so wait and see, but looks like I need to source some new wheels and Falken 452's soon.

I was told by my dealer about the corrosion on the 108's - I love their look, but he said to stay away because they corrode so easily - apparently salt gets in between the pieces and bolts... Sounds like a warranty job to me! - try and get them to replace them.

they will replace them, I have no doubt, just at present you can only see corossion when you remove the wheels as it very minor.

I had similar quotes for tyre prices when I changed mine - they kept claiming that they are BMW spec bridgestones

sadly those that dont know any better will be suckered in with this style of marketing!

I've read that that when tyre manufacturers make car sepcific versions of tyres they tend to be optimised for dry weather grip and can be sub-optimal in other conditions - why this is the case I do not know. However, it would therefore seem to make snese NOT to get the car specific version!

However, I have never heard of any Z4 specific tyres... sounds like a stupid dealer to me...

To be fair there are "BMW" bridgestones listed on blackcircles.com, models code is the same though, but price still only £183, only difference probably one says BMW on it

Bridgestone RE050A
Customer Rating:
255/35 R18 Y (90)
£171.52

Bridgestone RE050A (BMW)
Customer Rating:
255/35 R18 Y (90)
£182.99

srhutch, bit strange really.

I bought Conti Sport Contact 3 for my SLK and I got them from Black Circles too, and yes I ended up getting the "Mercedes" ones, but they are marked "M0" on the tyres and they were actually £3 cheaper than the normal tyres so it was a bit of a no-brainer really. What difference is there in the tyres, not sure TBH, but Conti list different tyres for Jag, Porsche, Merc, Audi, BMW and my handbook says to get "M0" marked tyres because the tread compound is different, but who knows really?

Looking into it, it seems that the BMW tyres should have a "*" printed on the sidewall somewhere, so it depends if it is worth the extra cash or not, it would be interesting to see what the differences were in the tyres themselves, like you suggest - probably none apart from the marking
