Yet more tyre questions.....

So I picked up my z4 today ( pics when polished) . Due to a mix up with my Indy he only replaced front 2 tyres with falken 452s and left the bridge tone Rfts on the rear. Now my immediate reaction was to get the rears replaced but on second thought there is nothing wrong with them and they are good for a few thousand miles yet. My question is : will it be ok to run front 452s with rear run flats. Would I notice that much difference if I changed the Rfts immediately or should I save my money on the basis that the rears will wear quicker and just replace the rear Rfts with falkens as and when they need replacing? Thanhs.

I did exactly the same - changed the fronts to non-RF's while running rears on RF's for about 15k miles. And it had absolutely no effect on the car, handling, performance etc whatsoever. So ignorethe scare stories about mixing tyres.

However, I did find the ride was still prerry hard & tooth-rattling, but about 4 weeks ago I swapped the rears to non-RF's .... & the difference is amazing. Soooo much smoother ride now all 4 tyres are non-RF's. Potholes no longer need to be swerved around. :) So my advice - get he rears done as well ASAP!

Mmm thanks Def -have now read a few more threads on the amtter with different sites. It' s obviuosly a very contentious issue with Insurance disputes being brought into the debate as well as handling at extremes. Whilst I shall not be doing much mileage and a strong possibility that I would never experince any issues, I think the combination of peace of mind and - as you say if the ride is less tooth rattling (which would please my wife) then I think I shall play safe do a 360 and get the rears replaced too.

It will affect handling to have two different types of tires, but sometimes from what I've heard (just opionions) that can be a good thing. you probably won't notice a difference unless your on a track or performing at max for your tires (which if so, you should be at a track). I know www.tirerack.com has some info in the tire section regarding where to put newer tires (those with more tread), but IIRC they state equal manufacturere/tread design on all 4 wheels.

All said, I know a few forum folks that have mixed tires with no issues.

Thanks - have doen a few 360's over this but finally decided as new Falkens on front to get new ones on rear so same all round. Done and dusted them Will seel the Bridgestones idc
