Yellow Oil Warning Light

Hi All,

I have a 2004 Z4 3.0S which was serviced recently. When I turn off the ignition on random occasions the yellow oil light comes on. I look after the car well using quality fully synthetic oil. The service was done about 2000 mile ago and included the oil filter. I have checked the level and its bang on the top notch of the dip stick.

Car runs fantastic. Could this be an oil pressure switch issue?

Did you find the cause of this as mine did the today ?
Turned ignition off, it beeps and the yellow oil light came on.
I started the engine and the light was gone and it's fine.
 
try and get a code reader and pull out the trouble code .. at least you have a oil level dipstick to check the level. the N54 twin turbo does not have one !!

Checked the oil and it's about 3mm off the centre part. Looking back at old posts, it's warning me it will need a top up soon before the oil gets to minimum. Luckily it's in for a service next week.
 
When I had an M54 in a 330 it used to like a drink of oil and I found the reading varied wildly depending on how you measured it. Do it when it's been sat cold and it looked fine but turn it on for 30s then off for two minutes before retesting and it clearly needed topping up. As said the yellow means it's pretty much on minimum.

Mines used nearly a litre of oil in 2 years and 7,000, so I guess that's not too bad.
 
If it's excessive I'd look into leaks. More likely than not its the valve cover gasket, which i just replaced on mine due to a slow leak from the back passenger side of the cover.
