Xenon main beam out Z4M

It's my understanding that the LCM is a more usual culprit than the bulb with Xenon headlights. It's expensive to replace without a warranty in part because it needs coding by BMW. Glad you got it sorted relatively cheaply

Went in this morn. Apparently the bulb is fine it's the control unit. So covered under warranty. £100 with my excess so not happy but better than a small fortune! Pick it up tomorrow

Out of interest Tom what's the full price?

I got mine off eBay... It doesn't take long to sort if you got the hands of a five your old and the car hasn't been lowered lol...

But I'd replace both as above if possible.

Picked up the car! Asked out of interest how much it would have cost. A new control unit would have been £380 not including the 4hours at £90 an hour! :S £740!!! For one headlight. Mental!

That's my warranty paid for itself nearly already with one claim. Def worth the warranty

Happened to me. I highly recommend swapping the bulbs to test if they both work. For me it was the ballast that had failed (was water logged), not the bulb. I picked up the exact same unit second hand on ebay for £50. If it is the ballast you will have to remove the front bumper and the entire headlight. It seems daunting at first but now I could have the entire bumper and headlight removed in 10-15mins. There are guides on the forum if someone would be able to direct you to them!

P.S. If it is the ballast, this is the item you are looking for. It is common across many manufacturers:

Automatic setting on light switch does not help this either,if this is on and the lights go on and off driving through darker or shaded areas during daytime the lamps and igniters are on and off a lot,not good. I leave my lights off auto setting and switch them on when its dark. My lights used to come on in bright sunlight on auto and even in full daylight when I reverse into my garage.

Mine have been on 'auto' since I bought it 5 years and 90k miles ago. Not had the need to replace even a bulb!

It's still under warranty though, so I want everything to be replaced so I have a nearly new car before I stop the warranty

wow, cant believe how much those crappy xeons are to replace/fix.. bloody hell..

congrats on getting it sorted through warranty Tom. good job.

Four hours to replace a plug-in box!
Where is it, in the middle of the gearbox?

Either that or they're using that Commodore 64 off of the "Name this 80's craze" thread to code it.
